Complaint
Bathroom repair: used improper dry wall, now mould is growing, did improper wiring-did not put fan on a separate circuit. Did not vent fan properly
Summer 2010, hired A-men Constuction to renovate my bathroom. Since then there were leaks in the ceiling lights, leaks into a bedroom ceiling, mould growing in the bathroom in the shower. The fan has not been wired properly and it was not vented properly. We will have to redo the bathroom and it will cost us thousands of dollars.

Desired Settlement
We want to be reimbursed for the amount needed for these repairs. It will cost $5000.00 or more. If we don't get it we will pursue a legal course of action against the company.

Business Response
Regarding complaint number XXXXX.

I wanted to take this chance to respond to the complaint made by my previous customers at *** ash st. their concerns are

1- Improper drywall
Response is this is that they proper drywall was used.

2- Improper wiring
Response is they were given the option to add in a additional circuit a conversation in between myself ( ****** ******) and ****** ***** took place. The option was declined as their would have been a additional cost as the bathroom is on the upper level of the home and a wire would have had to been snaked and drywall/ plaster removed on various locations between the basement where the electrical panel is and the 2nd floor where the bathroom is located. This additional work was declined as it would have been a additional cost. The new circuit can still be ran to the bathroom the cost to do it now would only be marginally more to do it now then it was then.

3- fan venting is improper
Response is the fan venting is ok. The other option is for the fan to vent out through the roof but that much warm air going out the roof will create ice daming as well the vent flap on the roof flange will often freeze up in the colder winter months and when the fan is not on snow blows down the vent and creates water problems when it melts inside water runs into the exhaust fan and down in and around the ceiling. Its just not the way to do it. This truly was the better option and still is.

4-ceiling lights leaking
Response is still the same as I told ***** and ****** back in the first winter after I done the bathroom back in 2011. Your water problem is coming from condensation. The attic ABSOLUTLY NEEDS to be vented properly. When I was in your attic on the ice cold winter day it was plus 10 ish give or take up there. Please check with another reputable contractor and they will tell you guys this a attic that is vented properly should be cold in the winter months not minus 40 ish outside and plus 10ish in your attic that issue with attic venting has to be addressed same as I told them back in 2011 when I came and seen it. When the home owners insulated their roof shawn plugged of the sofit with insulation no insul stops were installed when he insulated his attic and I didn't look at the new metal roof ***** put on back then but from the warmth of the attic iam quite sure that's not vented properly either air is supposed to come in through the sofit and up and out the roof vents even gable end air vents work when applicable to your houses framing. Iam stressing this again talk to an independent insulating contracting as well as a roofing contractor and have them resolve this problem for u.
If you recall I offered back in 2011 to remove the shower light for free no cost to u it was a secondary light and isn't necessary to have that over the shower area.
5-Mold in the bathroom shower
Response even the proper mold and mildew resistant caulking's will grow surface mold after a couple of years. The proper caulking's were used. This is part of your showers maintenance scraping of and replacing that every few years. Thorough cleaning of the shower often will give the caulking's a longer life before they look disgusting.
