MALICIOUS EMAIL PHISHING SCAM

Please be advised that an illegal attempt to gain information via email is being conducted by unknown subject(s) claiming to represent Insight Communications by informing users that there is a virus alert and that there is a virus on their PC. THIS EMAIL IS NOT FROM INSIGHT.
Below is a copy of the actual email as it was received this date by a consumer in Louisville:

Original Message ----- From: "Insight Broadband Webmaster online" <insightbroadbandwebmasteronline04@mchsi.com> To: <Undisclosed recipients:> Sent: Monday, April 27, 2009 8:41 AM     > Dear Insight Broadband online Email Account Owner, >  > Important notice, harmful virus was detected in your account which can be > harmful to our subscriber unit. You are to enter your E-mail address and > password here {____________, __________} to enable us set in an anti virus > in your user account to clear up this virus. we do need your co-operation > in this, Providing us with this information we enable us insert in your > account an anti virus machine for clean up. >  > We are sorry for the inconveniences this might have cost you. Failure to > do this, we are sorry to let you know that your account will be deleted > immediately to prevent it from arming our subscriber unit. >  > Thank you for using Insight Broadband, > We are glad at your service, > Insight Broadband Webmaster online.

Consumers are advised that Insight does not access their PCs to search for viruses or for any other reason. It's only connection is to provide broadband service access. It will not send messages to users requesting account information, passwords, or any personal information. AntiVirus software is available and should be installed on all PCs. If you have received the above malicious email DO NOT RESPOND.
The BBB strongly recommends that you contact the FBI at www.ic3.gov and file a complaint with that agency.
If you send a complaint to the BBB it will be sent to the FBI for their information and subsequent processing. While the BBB appreciates your sending information about this matter please do not expect a reply from Insight about your complaint. The circumstances of this criminal attempt make normal BBB complaint processing impossible Thank you
