Complaint: I have had the autotruck federal credit union visa credit card since 1983. The card has had a limit of $5,000.00 since the day it was issued to me and my wife. My payment history will show that over the years I have missed payments quite a few times, but made double payments the following months .I retired from **** ***** COMPANY august 1st **** and went from over $100,000.00 a year salary to roughly $********* a year pension. When I turned 62 years of age in **** I started drawing my social security along with a reduced pension and also drawing disabilty my income went to around $*********. In May **** was one of times I missed a payment, so in June I paid $514.00 which was for MAY and JUNE payments bringing me current on my account.My VISA card expired in MAY of which I was unaware of until I tried to use it.I called AUTOTRUCK and told them they forgot to send me a new card I was then told they would not reissue me a card because I was behind on my payment.They did finally reissue me a card but with a limit of $3,000.00 so now I'm $1,700.00 overlimit because I had my card to the $5,000.00 limit and they changed it to $3,000.00 overnight and being over the new limit is hurting my credit score.

Desired Settlement: Put the credit limit back to a $5,000.00 and freeze the account.What AUTUTRUCK has done to me and my wife is unfair.

Business Response:


August 14, **** This letter is in response to a member complaint letter dated 8/4/****. I regret that our member feels they were treated unfairly. Please realize we do attempt to work with our members through periods of financial difficulty. I do believe we were justified in not reissuing the VISA card in May ****. The account had late payments totaling 38 times since the card was issued. Over the past 24 months, this member was behind one payment 13 times and behind two payments 6 times. The account has not had a payment made since June 18, ****, and currently has a balance of $4,653.06. The member now owes a minimum payment of $278.00. This family has been a long-time member of the credit union, joining in May of 1984. The credit card has been opened since May 1993. Considering the member’s longevity with the credit union, I would be willing to increase the line of credit to $5,000.00 but freeze the account until there is at least six months of regular on-time payment history. Your line of credit will be raised, with the above stipulations on August 15, ****. We encourage all members to notify the credit union if they are having difficulties before it reaches this critical level so that we may help them during their financial crisis.
