Complaint: I had the unfortunate experience of being broke down. Called cool cars, had my car towed there at 5:50. They charged me 25.00 extra because they had to work past 6:00. The manager claimed the mechanic was charging the fee to work late. Once my car was complete at 6:20 I thanked the mechanic and informed him to ensure he received his 25.00 and he was totally surprised. This company is a rip off and I will never go there again. I'm also a business owner and I wish I could close my doors on time. This company has no military discount and these guys saw that I had no choice but to pay what ever they ask. I will be filing a formal complaint with the BBB.
Desired Settlement: Informe customers of extra charges and also posted. I want to ensure workers got the extra money promised.
Business Response: The customer called a few hours before closing and wanted a tire changed. We invited the customer to come into our store to do so. He shows up 10 minutes before closing. We took the job in and fully explained to the customer that we would take care of him but our tire guy has a 2nd job and in order for him to be on time he has to leave at 6:00pm closing time. Any jobs he stays over for we make sure he is compensated for his time and push the labor charge straight to over the tire guy's pocket. I apologize for the misunderstanding but I can assure you the tire guy was fully aware and fully compensated for every dollar of the $25.00 charge.
Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 8986164, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
To whom it may concern: I spoke to a lady at the front desk numerous times about me coming to their business and at no time did the lady I spoke with on the phone inform me that there was going to be a $25.00 additional service charge: also there is no signs posted in there business that states that "the customer will be charged a additional fee for working past the posted time. I looked around for a sign because I was livid about them shaking me down. Furthermore I was a patron during regular business hours. Cool Cars should have never accepted the job if they knew they had to work past the posted hours. Respectfully the gentlemen that change my tire was not aware he was receiving a fee for staying late. I thanked the mechanic for staying late. I wish I could have taped his response when I informed him he was going to be receiving a fee for staying late. I am a business owner myself and no way would I charge a customer for me having to stay late when they showed up before my closing time. I am very dissatisfied with the owner of Cool Cars. They saw a customer between a rock and a hard place and they took advantage of me. Respectefully I am a retired veteran and will do everything in my power to see this business banned.
BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable effort to address the complaint. However the consumer remains dissatisfied.
