Two weeks after fake BBB complaint notices hit businesses nationwide, the BBB serving Greater East Tennessee are once again receiving local reports of suspicious emails.
The new round of emails claims to be Council of Better Business Bureaus in Arlington, VA with subject lines such as: “BBB Case # xxxxx.” Messages urgently request that recipients click enclosed links to handle pending consumer complaints. Reported links so far are “email@example.com, “firstname.lastname@example.org, “email@example.com, and “firstname.lastname@example.org.
The BBB serving Greater East Tennessee reminds recipients that these e-mails may contain viruses and malware.
Never use enclosed links, open attachments or reply to unsolicited emails.
Delete questionable emails and run a comprehensive virus scan to ensure the computer has not been compromised.
