Job was never completed. Paid more than agreement.
The bid made to "rewire our whole house" was $3500. They called my husband after the "job was finished". To inform him that they was charging us $5300 and wanted paid in full. We had informed them that we only had the $3500 and they knew that before they even began. The owner informed my husband "that he is not a bank and never has been". Then they had to rewire the outside box. Then they had to come back and place safety plates and fire alarms. They also took all of the copper from our home (I have witnesses) and the owner lied to my husband and said they did not take the copper. The Inspector (*** ***** came to inspect. He can not clear it because we are suppose to have anti arch boxes. They refuse to come back out! *** **** also informed me that my whole house is not rewired!!! *** ******* contact email is **** I also was left a not so nice message on my phone. Also, I have sent to emails to the corporate office!

Desired Settlement
I want to hire someone else to finish the job that they did not complete and have Mr. Electric pay for it. I do not think that is asking too much at all. I have children and am not ***** that they have no concern of any danger they could be in for a job not finished!

Business Response
Ms. Carson
I received a complaint letter in the mail with Case ID XXXXXXXX, Password XXXXXXXXXb. When I tried to file an online response I was informed that the case does not exist. This customer has completely falsified the statements regarding our actions on the project and I would like to respond. We value our reputation and take seriously any complaints that may arise. This customer has lied to us and the inspector from the day we started the project and tried to complete electrical work under our permit I assume because they cannot afford to have the work completed properly. I make this assumption because they refused to pay us after the initial invoicing we agreed upon was discussed. At that time they informed me I would have to wait six months before they could START making payments. To date they have made one payment and owe us money. We stopped working on the project for last of funds and I believe based on the Iowa Electrical inspectors report they have attempted to complete electrical work themselves.

Consumer Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have receipts to prove that we was paid in full. I have emails from *** **** stating that they did not complete the job and refused to come back out. We have the statement of $3500 to rewire our whole house. Then the "new" statement for $5300 for "extras" that was never discussed. We got a loan to pay them in full. I have neighbors as witnesses. Also, what electric work should I have to do, if they did their job of rewiring my house? All I asked was for them to pay for someone else to come and finish what they should have had done. I have the bill from May 2013 when they did the work and the receipt where we paid fairly soon after cause we had to get a loan because of the change of amount. Please contact *** **** for proof of the dispute and if you need copies of the receipts, please let me know. *** **** has been to our home twice and knows that we did no work ourselves.

Final Business Response

I have been in business for myself for 12 years, an electrician for 24 years, a licensed journeyman electrician for 20 years and have maintained masters license for 19 years. I have worked in six states and completed work with countless municipalities and state and city licensed inspectors. We have successfully completed multiple rewiring and updating with multiple code entities in the past. We have never experienced this type of blatant disregard for the truth with a customer as we have experienced with the ********** I am going to assume that she has forgotten an/or doesn't understand how the electrical inspection and installation process works.
The initial visit to the residence and pricing structure included updating the electrical service and rewiring of certain circuits(kitchen, Bathroom, laundry circuits) as required by the state electrical examining board. In the midst of our wiring, the customer requested several additional items that they wanted wired. The ********* were made aware that these items were not part of the update and they agreed to go forward with the additional work. When the bill was presented the comment by the owner was, "That isn't as much as I expected the bill to be".
During the process of wrapping up the project, the owner hired a handyman to do work in the house. Unfortunately, he removed sheetrock and wall coverings in portions of the house, mainly the upstairs bedrooms. The removal of the wall coverings then required more additional wiring in those areas to be brought up to current code standards and required smoke detectors, arc fault breakers, additional outlets and switching. Those items were not necessarily part of the original or additional billing items. The handyman admitted to us that he had completed wiring in the house when we questioned him about who had completed some of the work because we recognized we had not done the work. That brings us to where we are today with the inspector *** **** not able to complete his final inspection and us having no desire to continue working on a project that we were not completing work on but would be required to maintain a standard by the State Electrical division. I have been in contact with *** **** and regional director ****** ****** multiple times over the past several months through emails and phone conversations trying to resolve this project. The state electrical department is aware of the timeline and sequence of events that have taken place at this property and have attempted to help us resolve the situation. As of the time of this correspondence The State and Mr. Electric have not been allowed by the owner to resolve this issue even though the ********* have indicated to the State of Iowa that they would.
