$143 Diagnosis charge was not authorized
On August XX XXXX at 7:30am I left my Volvo with Beckley Auto for the day, with the understanding they would look at my car when they had free time. It had an alarm going off every so often, it wasn't a big deal, and I was not expecting a fee to look at the car. Mind you, if I had been aware of a fee as Beckley claims, NO WAY would I leave my car for a whole day and take the bus. For $143, it would have to be an important issue with the car, & I would want an appointment for the less than 1 hr diagnosis. However it was a 'leave your car here and we will try to look at by this afternoon.'

Around 9:30am, they called with a diagnosis of a module replacement for $750. I asked if there was some simple way to turn off the alarm module as it is unneeded. He said no it had to be replaced or the car wont run.

I called the dealer and they said they could disable the alarm. I told Beckley I would have the dealer do that work, but Beckley refused to give me my car unless I paid them $143. The $143 was never authorized and I later found out the repair was $600, but ***** at Beckley claims I authorized a diagnostic fee. If the repair was $600, why did he call to get me to authorize $750?? I will tell you why...its proof he knew the diagnostic fee was never authorized.

I feel its extortion, as I had to pay to get my car back

I feel I'm entitled to a full refund of the $143. Further, I don't think this company should claim to be Volvo experts, as they were either ignorant of basic Volvo programming, or deceptive to lure me into an expensive repair

Thank you for contacting us. My understanding is the work we performed - testing for the cause and advising the solution for the alarm fault - is not the issue here. The issue is whether Mr. ***** was informed there would be a charge for the work requested. According to (1) The documentation produced on 8-13 when the appointment was made and (2) The service advisor and other employees present when Mr. ***** left his car 8-14, Mr. ***** was twice advised to budget $135 for the testing required. My experience with my appointment software's requirements and especially my staff's honesty and consistency in these matters cause me to deny Mr. *****'s request for a refund.

In the event our diagnosis was incorrect and the Volvo dealer did recode/disable the alarm I will refund the $143 with a copy of the receipt.
