The cost of the services were inflated along with the cost of the parts.
My complaint is the cost of the services rendered don't coincide with what the book state for the time of repair. Also the cost of replacement parts are above actual cost purchase.

Desired Settlement
Fair price for work.

I have reviewed the invoice for the service in question. I am sorry if you were not happy with the work we performed. I am also sorry that you did not feel comfortable discussing this with me when you picked up the car or calling any time since then to discuss it.

In response to the question of "book time". There are at least 4 different labor guides. The estimated times in each one can vary sometimes quite significantly from the others. In addition the labor times in each of those guides are for performing work on a car that is brand new at the time that the labor guide is printed. As cars become older, things get rusty and more difficult to disassemble and/or reassemble. The book times are only intended to be a guide or estimate of how long a particular job might take to do.

We make every effort to anticipate any difficulties that might arise with a particular job and and take those things into account when writing the estimate for any work we recommend. We always provide an estimate for the expected cost for a repair and will never do any work without prior approval from the customer.

In this particular case extra time was needed to drill out broken bolts, to replace hose clamps, to replace power steering gaskets, to refill and bleed the power steering system and perform cleaning that might not have been necessary were the vehicle in question brand new. Also, the additional parts (bolts, clamps, gaskets, fluids) were not included as items on your invoice but are legitimate expenses as part of doing the job. So whether Therefore the discrepancy between "book time" and what you were charged is justified.

The cost of the replacement parts is admittedly more than one could purchase them for themselves. It is common practice among reputable shops to mark up the cost of parts. It is very much like a steak you could buy at a grocery store for $5.00. That same steak served to you in a restaurant may cost $15.00. What you get for that additional cost at our shop is that we do a free 35 point inspection to make you aware of any safety concerns with the vehicle, you do not need to put the part on yourself, you get a 2 year 24,000 mile nationwide warranty on the new parts installed and access to one of our free loaner vehicles while we are making the repairs. There may be shops that allow people to bring in their own parts or don't mark up the cost of their parts but there is likely no warranty associated with their work. My customers have come to expect the level of quality that I offer. I would have to compromise my integrity and quality were I to offer anything less.

I also want to speak directly to the problem with your car in particular. As we discussed it is an unfortunate aspect of cooling system repairs that you have to fix what is the most obvious and significant problems first, however that does not mean that other problems won't present themselves after the most significant problems are taken care of. If I recall correctly you got confirmation of this from another shop while the car was here. I truly and honestly wish for you that the car did not have other cooling system issues.

Consumer Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The reason I do not accept the response from the business is since getting the car back they stated they changed out the thermostat after checking it I found the old gasket and thermostat still in the vehicle. I also found that my boots on the car had fresh cuts on them which was reported being found once the car got to thier shop. Had it been an old tear or not being replace a year earlier there should have been dirt or showing of wear, but the cuts were fresh as if they waas trying to get me to spend more money.

I have no problem with the cost of labor, but no shop I have ever delt with charges more for parts than their purchase price. I was also charged more for the time that was booked for the job and was told that it took the guy longer because he had problems. All shop charge by the book and not by actual time the job takes. I feel that A Team Auto Care will never seek to resolve this because then that would admit wrongful treatment. I understand that I have been taken advantage off and will continue to keep every one aware of the practices that go on there and hopefully things will change for others.

Final Business Response
I am sorry that the gentleman feels he was taken advantage of.

I am the owner of the business and I did the work in question myself. I am positive that I replaced the thermostat, the gasket and the thermostat outlet tube o-ring.

As mentioned in my last response, my policy is to do a 35 point inspection on every vehicle to get an overview of the vehicle so that the customer is aware of anything that is a potential safety concern with their vehicles.

With regard to the axle boots - I would never ever cause damage to a customers vehicle to make them spend more money. To the contrary I try to advise people of problems so they have the opportunity to maintain or repair things before they cause any additional damage or expense. I do not know how or when the axle boots became torn but I do know that I did not cause any damage to them.

While I do not admit any wrong doing, I understand that the gentleman is not happy and I do very much want to resolve this issue if at all possible. I am willing to do nearly whatever it takes, within reason, to resolve this issue. If there is anything I can do please tell me what it is.
