What is the BBB Charity Review Program?

The Houston BBB’s Charity Review Program's mission is to help donors make informed decisions about which organizations they would like to give a donation to. We do this by asking charities to participate in the BBB Charity Review Program.  Each year, the BBB reviews local nonprofits to determine whether they meet the BBB’s 20 “Standards for Charity Accountability.” The BBB evaluates non-profits based on their financial information, board governance policies, and fundraising activities. There is no charge to charities for an evaluation by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, and the resulting report is freely accessible to the public on our website or by calling us. Once completed, your report will be available to the public for one year. Although we do not publish all information submitted for review, the resulting report will include a summary of the organization’s mission, programs, governance, and key financial information. Consumers, donors, foundations, media, businesses, government entities and the general public rely on the Better Business Bureau to provide this essential information regarding charitable organizations in Greater Houston, Galveston and South Texas.
