I cannot in good faith recommend this company. Foreman bordered on rude, provided only one plant on the list I gave, (seemed foreman just went one place and bought what they had,) never shown an actual landscape plan complete with plant names etc, (just a scribbled drawing) only gave climbing vines about 4' of climbing wire and then provided me with the wire & screws to go higher, (I don't even own a drill!); The foreman wasn't pleasant or patient when I asked him to explain how the timer worked for the lights he installed (with a lot of the wire left on top of the soil). So, lights all wrong for daylight savings time. But the worst was when the fountain he installed began to lean to one side. The foreman did come out after a few days and righted it, but never even let me know he was here. It wasn't long before the pot tilted again. The foreman returned again...same thing. The last time he came, the fountain was maybe 10-12" from falling completely over. That time I saw him on my patio. He told me that the grid was broken. He had finally moved some river rocks from around the pot to investigate what was actually the problem. He put together an estimate to "reinstall" the fountain and said he would reinstall for $758. ($529 to install just one year prior) He bragged he wouldn't charge for the labor. He also tried to put the blame on me! I suggested the company should absorb the cost. I was told no. Then I offered to split the cost. Again. "no". I was given no names or higher ups to contact. Kind of a who's on first scenario! I do like the way the tile was laid, compensating for the transition from tile to grass. But the cut away of the original concrete patio isn't very even and there are chunks of old cement visible. I decided to go with this co. initially because others weren't interested in landscaping a small space like mine. I wish I had kept looking. Ultimately I paid another contact to reinstall the fountain--for $400.

            Manicured Landscapes, Inc. Response

            08/15/2022

We at Manicured Landscapes have been creating landscapes and relationships for over 45 years in the greater Houston area. One of the relationships we value is that with the BBB, so we appreciate the chance to respond factually. While our relationship with Ms. Klier has been a challenge, we feel that the service and product she received were exemplary, so much so that photos of her project are on our website for all to see! In response to individual items: 1. Ms. Klier presented a list of plants that were procured from a gardening book and were all annuals. When we advised her of that she stated "she did not know plants..." so while at the nursery plant photos were sent and she approved the selections...one at a time. 2. Ms. Klier was presented our fees for a full landscape rendering and chose not to invest in that. We met daily on site and painted out layouts and design. She was indeed given sketch's to convey concepts prior to any construction...each day, as is common in design/build projects. 3. Materials were procured to install a wire trellis. When we asked about going higher than the plants were currently, she stated she did not want to see screws or wire until that plants grew. There was no agreement mentioned about coming back seasonally as the plants grew to install more material. She was asked if she would want the materials we purchased per her original direction, that is true. The materials were exclusively purchased for her home and would not be used elsewhere. 4. Ms. Klier was given a walk-through of all the mechanical functions on her project as well as the owners manual. Ms. Klier had an electrician come and repair the GFI as it failed multiple times during construction, and multiple (over 5) return trips for follow ups to her request. Certainly we cannot contact any client after a power failure of any kind to see if they checked their controllers? 5. Ms. Klier fountain was installed in April of 2021. Her first call in regards to the fountain was in May of 2021, she stated it was not working. The fountain had run out of water from the original installation 4 weeks earlier, and she had forgotten to fill it. Her second call was in early fall, she had failed to drain the pond for the summer and it had collected leaves in front of the pump. We cleaned and filled the fountain at no charge and again reminded her of the instructions regarding operation of the fountain. She had placed two calls about the fountain after that about the fountain not running...both times it was diagnosed over the phone as a.) GFI tripped. b. she for got to fill the fountain. (all occurred in 2021) This spring Ms. Klier contacted me about her fountain, (she has my personal cell phone number and has used it liberally over the last year) and let her know I would come by. The fountain was tilted about 3 degrees and did not appear too worse for the wear, and it was adjusted to level. She was texted it was working and she thanked me for the help. Three weeks later she texted me again that it was tilted, again. So on the follow up visit, it was inspected closer and adjusted with a shim. (Standard practice.) She contacted me again a week later saying it was leaning again. I went and completely disassembled the fountain emptied it and found that the grate was broken and the tub leaking. The cinder block that was originally installed directly below the fountain had been moved from its original installed position. ( I was the original installer and "foreman" she refers to.) When I informed her of my findings and quoted the repair costs she asked for us to "split the costs". I informed her that while we value her as a client and have had minimum of nine visits prior with no evidence of leaning, that our warranty would certainly cover any workman like defects, catastrophic failure of components only occurs from an outside influence, such as someone standing on or climbing on the fountain. She agreed to our quote for the work, in writing. The next day she informed me she found someone cheaper and not to come. No further contact has been had until we received this correspondence. We appreciate the chance to dialog with the BBB and value our relationship, we would respectfully request that this type of complaint not tarnish our hard won reputation. Ms. Klier contacted me on no less than 20 separate occasions, many times off hours and on weekends and always met with assistance at no cost and a smile. While she mentions my rudeness, MS. Klier is fully aware that I am hearing impaired. I simply cannot hear you if you are behind me! I appreciate your time and consideration in this matter, thank you for your time. Respectfully submitted,
