We have had 2-3 different jobs done by the R.A. Briggs & Co.. Issue #1: Lighting One of the major things we had done on that one of the jobs was to put in can lighting in our living room, den and two bedrooms, approximately 24-30 self-contained units. I was having some non-related work done and it was brought to my attention that the work previously performed had been done improperly by the Briggs personnel. All the cans were on one breaker, no extra circuits were added but instead they were cut into existing wiring, that there are no grommets, covers or wire nuts. In other words, we have a potential fire hazard. This issue was addressed and resolved but it speaks to the quality of the work done. Issue 2:Hallway bath We had slow drainage pretty much from the time the hallway bath was torn out, new plumbing installed and the bathroom remodeled by R.A. Briggs & Co. One of the initial issues that was noted was that the bathtub faucet valve was not placed in the correct location as well as being placed too far back into the wall, hence the hole that was cut was too large. Instead of adjusting the placement of the valve, they grouted around the face plate to cover up the error. We paid a master plumber $685 to try to snake the drain but with no results after three hours. In order to determine what the problems were and to correct them, the bathtub, all the tile, the concrete under the tub, sheetrock and cement board and all the associated plumbing had to be removed. When the tub was removed to find the source of the drainage issues, a number of issues were noted. When the tub was pulled out, we found that the tub was resting on loose, unsecured pieces of hardy plank that had been placed on top of the concrete and then the tub placed on top of that. It was apparent that the side pony wall had been built too high, and instead of redoing it so the tub rested properly on the concrete when dropped into place, they used the hardy plank to raise the tub, versus correcting the height of the wall which was approximately 6 inches too high. When the plumbing was uncovered via digging out the concrete, it was immediately noticeable that again, the job was done incorrectly. Not only was sealant not used to connect the pipes, it appeared no glue was used, as pipes were very loose and, in some instances, separated all together. The ventilation pipe which should have been near the front of the tub, was at the back, and should have been installed higher than the drain pipe, but both were placed at the same height, so the tub could not possibly drain properly. Additionally, a kitchen p-trap instead of one needed for a bathtub was installed, so there was no way it could be snaked. By the time we were done, it cost us an additional $5695 on top of the $685 we had paid the plumber to put the bathroom back together. Prior to having the work done, I reached out to the company to notify them of some of the issues we were having and to see if they had an interest in being part of the process. The company attorney called me to let me know that I had no legal recourse because we were outside the time limits. After having the work completed, I sent supporting pictures of the what was uncovered. There has been no response to date.
