In June of 2012 BBB opened an investigation and notified the company of complaint patterns alleging the firm engaged in unlawful debt collection practices in its attempts to collect debts. According to BBB records a pattern of consumer complaints alleged the firm engaged in unlawful debt collection practices in its attempts to collect debts. Consumer complaints alleged debt collectors routinely threatened consumers with arrest if they did not pay a debt within a certain time frame. Furthermore, consumer complaints alleged debt amounts quoted by the agency were much higher than the original amount of the debt. In many cases it was noted that the quoted amount was often more than twice the original debt amount. The company did not respond to the BBB's inquiry. Furthermore, Texas State Bar records did not offer information indicating Mr. Gerald Wright, the firm's owner, was a licensed attorney. BBB of Greater Houston and South Texas later provided complaint information to the Federal Trade Commission to aid its subsequent investigation of the company.
