Complaint: My elderly parents contracted **** **** to replace the roof of their home. The job was left incomplete. I am filing this complaint on behalf of my aging parents who are unable to get in touch with **** **** of Rick King Contracting. He left with the job my parents wanted done incomplete and has not returned any attempt to contact him. In the fall of 2013 my parents contracted Rick King Contracting for the replacement of the roof of their home. On several occasions they met with Mr. **** himself and expressed certain details they would have liked completed. He always nodded his head and agreed, saying they'd take care of it. One Friday afternoon, before the job was 100% complete, Mr. **** and his crew packed everything up and disappeared. The main portion of the roof was indeed complete. They did a fabulous job on it.* However, all of the seemingly smaller parts (which aren't small to my parents as the homeowners!* of the job were left incomplete. An 18 foot piece of flashing on the back of the house was completely missing. Dry wall on the interior of the house was left unpatched. Several nails which penetrated all the way through the roof, exposing their sharp ends and leaving a potential termite entrance were supposed to have been sanded and puttied. The ventilation in the peak portion of the roof was nailed down when it was agreed they were to be made accessible for cleaning. Several times my father requested to do a walk through with Mr. **** at the end of the job. The purpose of the walk through was to catch all of these (again not little things to them) components and give the job a sense of finality. After Mr. **** and his company left, my parents made several efforts to get in touch with him. He never responded. It's as if Mr. **** was saying we're done with that job, no need to communicate anymore, on to the next thing. Now we're left to complete the job ourselves. I recently went to the roofing supply store Mr. **** uses to get the outdoor flashing he failed to finish. * Mr. **** is a very kind and likeable person. Our issue is his lack of communication with the customer. While he seemed to agree with what my parents said to him, he never wrote anything down and didn't tell his employees what they had said. On several occasions, they would say something to one of his employees and say *"didn't Mr. **** tell you that?*" The employees were hearing it for the first time from my parents. He rarely passed anything on to them. Mr. ****'s crew is a hard-working, well mannered, group of men. But they don't call the shots and I know they didn't say wrap it up before the job was completed. In closing, I am very pleased with the portion of the job that was completed. I am very pleased with the work and professionalism of Mr. ****'s crew. But I am left with a huge feeling of incompleteness and a distaste for Mr. ****'s lack of communication and disappearance.
Desired Settlement: I simply would like Mr. **** to contact my father and make this right. It really shouldn't take long. There are 4 main things that were agreed upon and left unfinished: 1.)The flashing on the back side of the house. 2.)The exposed nails penetrating all the way through the roof. 3.)Two 3/3 sections of dry wall on the ceiling of the interior. 4.)The ability to remove the installed ventilation. Finally, my father would just like to walk through the job with Mr. **** and talk about it. Thank you
