Evaluation Conclusions: This charity meets the both of Hawaii's BBB's two additional Standards for Charitable Accountability.
IHS offers emergency shelter and provides a full range of services free of charge to men, women & families with children who are homeless. IHS operates two facilities in Honolulu, one for men at 350 Sumner Street, capable of serving up to 240 men each night and the other, for women and families, at 546 Ka'aahi Street, serving up to 60 single women and 23 families, with as many as 60 children daily.
In addition to providing shelter the agency provides hot nutritious meals, an average of 900 meals per day over the course of the year.
Additionally, IHS provides the following onsite support services: hygiene facilities and supplies, phone and mail service, secure storage for personal belongings, free clothing, access to laundry facilities, general health screenings, healthy baby care, childhood disease inoculation, dental care, housing placement, substance abuse counseling and treatment, financial management, psychiatric assessment and treatment, legal consultation, ongoing support such as Alcoholics Anonymous & Narcotics Anonymous, domestic violence programs, parenting education, a child activities center, and Kokua Account (a savings account administered by IHS and accessible through a Case Manager).
