Complaint
Car dealership sold me an unsafe car where engine and power steering shut down while driving.
Purchased a used vehicle (2010 Chrysler Town & Country) from Mercedes Benz of Greensboro dealership on Feb 3, 2014. After delivery, discovered that the engine and power steering would stall and shut down while driving, putting my family at risk of accident and fatality. The shutdown occurred approximately 10 times in the first 30 days we owned the vehicle. Luckily this never occurred on a freeway at high speed, but it easily could have. Notified MB of Greensboro of the problem. Stopped driving the vehicle and took it to local Chrysler dealer. They found error codes logged that indicated a faulty EGR valve and dirty fuel injectors. These were repaired by the Chrysler dealership on 3/12/2014 at a cost of $691.44. Requested Mercedes Benz of Greensboro to pay for these repairs since they sold me a very unsafe car that should never have been listed for sale. The dealership declined to pay for the repairs. Considering how many times the car stalled in the first 30 days of my ownership, there is no way that the dealer did not know of this issue, yet they failed to disclose this condition to me at the time of purchase.

Desired Settlement
Reimburse me $691.44 for repairs made.

Business Response
We sold this 2010 Chrysler Town and Country on February 3, 2014 AS/ISout of factory warranty. Prior to the sale, on Jan. 27, 2014 it passed our safety and emissions inspection and had been test driven by 2 different dealership employees and performed fine. The customer, ***** ****, has sent us a copy of his bill as he took it to be checked over and repaired on March 12, 2014. That is well over a month and over 1000 miles, thus it seems clear that the problem didn't exist on Feb. 3, 2014.

Consumer Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Issue happened too frequently for dealer to not know about the problem. Selling a car AS/IS is fine as long as you disclose all problems to the buyer. Dealer withheld this information from the buyer at time of purchase.
