I purchased a GE window air conditioner 3 years ago. I went with a higher end unit, paying close to $500, thinking it would last much longer than the cheaper $100 units.. I live in ********, where the window unit is only used in our summer months. June thru August. 3 months total each summer for 3 years. That is a total of 9 months. LESS than a year. Each year it is packed up safely and put away during the months not used. When I Turn it on now, it sounds like a semi truck driving thru my house!. I believe it to be the blower/fan Motor. I sent an email to GE, in which I got a response to contact a different department.. Not sure why my email just wasn't forwarded to the correct one**** A phone number was given to the department, so I called. I was informed that there is ONLY a 1 year warranty on the units. If I want the part to fix the noise, I would have to purchase it. I was quoted $130+. Now, I get that I bought the unit 3 years ago. But technically the unit, like I mentioned above, has ONLY a run time of 9 months TOTAL! For $130 I can go buy a Non-GE unit. I believe That a $500 unit, should NOT be breaking after 7 months!!!! I chose a GE product**** Paying more, because I thought it would last me a few years longer than the cheaper brands.. I understand that things break. I am a homeowner. I am not asking for a brand new unit**** I am asking for the part, for GE to send out someone to fix it .. and if it can't be fixed, the YES. A NEW UNIT. GE stands behind their products... ??? Really? Obviously don't stand behind their customers.
