Complaint: Tire rim was repaired by AW only to reveal a major defect (the paint peeled off) in 4 days. Geico and AW refuse to repair/replace the faulty rim. Tire rim was repaired by AW Collision only to reveal a major defect (the paint peeled off) in 4 days. Geico insurance and AW refuse to repair/replace the faulty rim. Discussions have bantered back and forth with no satisfaction. Neither agency will replace the defective repair.
Desired Settlement: Replace the faulty rim with a new one.
Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2016/01/08) */ Hello, We are well aware of the issue with the wheel, we explain the process to vehicle owner as well. All insurance companies force body shops to use the repair/reconditioning process. In their estimate insurance companies specify a vendor which they prefer to use. We always advise against it and insurance company refuse to pay for a new wheel till their vendor made an attempt to repair the wheel and if the wheel fails to perform as a new OEM part then insurance company pays to replace the faulty reconditioned part with a new OEM wheel. However, in this case Geico refused to pay and it is absolutely against department of insurance guidelines. We made all the recommendations and if they insurance denies to cover the part then they should be held liable not the body shop. Here is a statement from department of insurance which clearly shows Geico is at fault and responsible for this part. We are not at fault and we spent hours on the phone explaining the process and they just refuse to pay.
