Complaint
Fairview is falsely reporting major leaks and need for high cost repairs or a/c replacement to consumer. deceptive and con-artists
9/9/13 service report XXXXX. Tech reported leak check and leaks in 2 places: evaporate coil & service valves. Quoted new coil & valve replacement $3000 or new unit $4067.

2nd opinion another hvac company found to be NO leak at coil and minor leak at valve which was tightened for $100 total repair!!!! Before they even came they said many companies are scamming consumers and sure enough that is what I allege Fairview to be doing.

Desired Settlement
They should refund the $65 they charged for this inflated repair. they should write an apology letter. Good question: how should other senior citizen consumers be protected against this type of scam?

Our technician followed company procedure with the service complaint on this house (one side of house will not cool below 80 degrees) upon arrival he checked and found the refrigerant level was low (as listed on service tag) while Mr. ***** ******** watched, Technician then proceeded to perform a leak check of the outdoor unit, he then opened up the case of the evaporator coil and leak checked it with a electronic leak detector, all while Mr. ******** watched on. The technician again showed Mr. ******** that the detector was going into alarm due to a leak present, the technician also pointed out that the evaporator coil was also rusting.
After being asked to, our technician also checked out the second system in the house and found that the electronic air cleaner was non-functional and informed the homeowners that the evaporator coil may be dirty due to this.
This was all covered in the one $65.00 dispatch fee.

The technician then made his recommendations for repairs and/or replacements on both systems. None were performed.

My response to this statement is when I talked to Mrs. ******** on the phone she told me she had forgot that they had a home warranty on the home until after she had called us. She informed me that the warranty company put ''three gallons of coolant'' in the system and that they found no leaks.
I asked Mrs. ******** if and how they performed the leak check, and without one refrigerant cannot be put into a system that knowingly has a leak, it is illiegle. And I asked for a copy of their service tag stating what they had done. Since I believe that home warranty companies are only looking out for themselves and not the best interest of the environment or the homeowner.

Providing documentation from the company that tightened the loose fittings and made the simple repair is a thinly veiled way to prolong the issue. The other company had the opportunity to go along with the fraud leak detection and provide a high cost repair, but they could lose their contract by having their primary employer (Insurance Company ) send out a secondary company to verify. The other company sees this abusive fraud frequently! they have been in the business as long/longer than Fairview claims. It is simple: tightened valves, rechecked for emissions, no leak! Fairview wanted to install a new coil for $3000. I urge consumers to get 2nd opinions

Final Business Response
As stated we performed a leak check of the outdoor unit and indoor evaporator coil with an electronic leak detector that is capable of detecting HCFC leaks down to ounces per year, and leaks were detected with Mr. ******** watching on, at both the outdoor and indoor units.
Now if the "other company" wants to say that there are no leaks I want to see their service write up as I have asked for showing that they performed the same leak check.
P.S. As a service technician for 29 years this is the proper procedure when a unit is found to be low on refrigerant, not just dump ozone depleting refrigerant into it without doing a leak search.
