The company is advertising “Lose up to 30 lbs in 30 days for only $30!! *exclusive of products.”  A review of the company website revealed little information about the exact cost of the SLIM4Life program.  In the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of its website, the company states, “There is no set fee for your program because all our programs are individualized and based on your specific needs.  At the time of your free consultation we will determine which program best fits your particular situation…Our programs are very affordable and can fit into anyone’s budget from students to professional business people…”

The FAQ section of the website states both children and individuals with medical issues can participate in the SLIM4Life program.  The company states it has clients with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, high cholesterol, arthritis/joint pain, thyroid disease, and cancer.

The company has a “new S4L Online Store” on its website which allows consumers to purchase SLIM4Life products online.  According to the website, items including the company’s starter kit can be purchased for $299.00, its Metabolizer for $135.00, Neuroslim for $32.00, etc.

Advertising Issues
Complaints against SLIM4Life allege advertising/sales issues.  Consumers mention SLIM4Life runs advertising campaigns claiming “lose all the weight you want for only a dollar a pound” or “Lose up to 30 lbs in 30 days for only $30!!”  Based on these affordable advertising campaigns, consumers sign up for a free consultation with SLIM4Life.  In the consultation, some consumers find that in addition to the monthly cost of the program. SLIM4Life charges varying fees including, but not limited to, a $210.00 enrollment/set-up fee, a $140.00 service fee, a $100.00 deposit, etc.  During some advertising campaigns, SLIM4Life reportedly waives some or all these additional fees.

In the initial consultation, consumers report asking specific questions regarding the cost of the program, the cost of supplements, diet plan, etc.  In response, SLIM4Life employees state the plans are individually “customized” and therefore an exact program price cannot be provided until the consumer’s unique plan has been created.  Based on the cost and program information provided at the initial SLIM4Life consultation, many consumers sign an enrollment contract.  Approximately three days after signing the contract, the client attends a nutritional class and is given his/her “customized” plan as well as information on the cost of supplements for the plan created.  Consumers complain the “customized” plan is merely a pre-printed form with information highlighted and circled to address their individualized plan needs.  Moreover, customers report the cost of supplements is significantly higher than information presented in the initial consultation.

Product Quality Issues
Complaints allege consumers became ill after using SLIM4Life products and the business would not refund the consumer for the products citing they are non-refundable.

Terms and Conditions/Refund Policy
The SLIM4Life contract states “ALL NEW PROGRAMS INCLUDE AN ENROLLMENT AND SET-UP FEE OF $300.00 WHICH IS NON-REFUNDABLE.  I also understand that ALL SALES ARE FINAL and that any and all supplements or products are non-refundable and non-exchangeable once the supplement or product leaves the center.

I also understand once given my assigned nutritional program at the program explanation class the program becomes NON-REFUNDABLE IN ITS ENTIRETY.”  I further understand that Slim4Life Weight Loss Centers are agreeing to provide me individual counseling up to 6 visits per week during my program for the contracted weeks set forth in this agreement during the designated business hours.  I hereby grant permission to employees at Slim4Life Weight Loss Centers to provide me with weight loss services.  I warrant to Slim4Life that I am in good heath and fully able to participate in this program and do not require my Physician's release to do so.  I agree to hold the company, it's officers, nurses, and employees completely harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, or damage for personal injuries which I may suffer directly, or indirectly, from and participation in the program.  Employees of the company are not health care providers and cannot be expected to diagnose or treat individual health problems.  I wil address my health concerns to my personal physician.  I understand that all weight loss treatment and program weeks run consecutively from my start date and that weight loss varies with individuals andhow well they adhere tot he program and therefore, this program is non-cancelable and non-refundable.

The BBB met with the business June 2013 to discuss the volume and nature of complaints.  The business provided an overview of the business structure and the individualized program they offer to consumers.

The contract reads:
