Complaint: Took car to lifetime automotive in Dec. 2011, the mechanic told me the timing belt needed to be replaced, and also they would replace the water which is normally done with this type of repair , We were informed at that time their could be other repairs needed. When we picked up the car on Dec 15,2011, the car was running very rough. I told the mechanic and he said the that the new belt had to adjust itself and if in a few days their was no improvement, we should bring back for adjustment, their was no improvement and we had to go back several times with us never getting the problem solved, shortly after the car had to go back for repair to the transmission cooling line, this occured about eight days after the first repair, I began to have suspicions abou t the repair shop. In Feb,2012 we took the car their ,it was leaking some coolant, we took the car to lifetime the mechanic poured cold water on the hot radiator and it was steaming he told me the radiator was bad abd needed to be replaced, and it would over three hundred dollars,we later found that it was only overflow. In April,2012 the car started making noises, we took the car to a different shop, and was informed that the timing was all stretched out, because whoever did the first repair did put on a tensioner assembly. I conftonted the man at lifetime automotive and asked to be reimbursed for the newesy repair concernibg the timing belt, He infotmed me I had balance remaing, which we had been trying to pay off,He stated
Desired Settlement: Conclusion of complaint - their would be no refund and he wanted balance with no adjustment, his attitude was very sarcastic, I left and told I would contact the BBB and also and attorney and take him small claims court. Our desired outcome would clear off balance which is less than the original repair to the timimg belt, and a refund of the three hundred and ninety dollars from the new repair, and also and apology to us ,this whole incident has caused a great burden on my son and myself.
To Whom It May Concern, my name is ****** ********* and I am writing in response to ************* concerns. In November 22,2011 Mr.CULBERTSON towed in his **** Dodge Neon with a complaint of no start. After we run initial check we found that *************'s vehicle had broken timing belt and since it was a interference motor that he also suffered valve damage. We gave ************* exact estimate on the repair and suggested that he should replace the water pump at the same time ,since its timing belt driven and its just more economical to do it now then to have to redo the entire job at later time since it no extra labor involved.************* agreed to all the repairs and asked us if he could make payments on it since he can't afford to pay the entire bill at once . We agreed for him to finish the payments in few weeks. After we finished all the repairs ************* picked up the car on December 2 ,2011 and came back on December 19,2011 with a concern of his car leaking transmission fluid. We performed another check and found his transmission cooler lines leaking. So he agreed to having those fixed but again he said that he is struggling to pay bills at home and didn't want to his water and electricity being turn off so if we could give him a just bit more time to make payments. So we agreed to additional 2-3 weeks. After that ************* phone number was not working and we never have seen ************* again till yesterday May 21,2012. So if ************* . He asked us to refund his money and pay the repairs that he maid somewhere ells, and we polity informed ************* that we can't refund any money to him since he didn't make any payments as we agreed and that still has $308.41 outstanding balance that needs to be taken care of. He had the option to bring back the car to us and we would gladly take a look at any concerns he might have, but since he knew that he still owed us money we feel that his claim is unjust and that he is trying to abuse our generosity and we just want stand for that. So we explained to ************* that he has the choice either to make payment on the remaining balance or that we will have to pursued other legal option on collection on it and his response was that he doesn't care since the his son moved out of the state anyway. So our policy is that we should at least have the opportunity to fix something if it was not done right the first time and have the car present here in our shop so that we can verify any concerns that customer might have.So ************* treated us that he will take us to small claims court and we said that it would be fine if he feels that he has just cause . So our take is that ************* make payments on the account as agreed within 30 days and we won't persuade and other legal actions to collect on his outstanding obligations and we still will honor our 12/12 warranty as long he can bring the car in to the shop so that we can have the opportunity to take a look at it and to be fair to him and to us at the same time.We don't run from our responsibilities but also we don't anyone abuse our goodwill.
BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable effort to address the complaint. However the consumer remains dissatisfied.
