Complaint: I found a GMC pickup that I was interested in buying on the web site Autotrader, so I emailed and called the business a few times to get more info about the truck. On one of the final calls I specifically asked ****** *. if there was anything wrong with the truck and if everything worked. He then stuttered and hesitated and told me that the 4WD worked. After getting the truck shipped home, on the way home from the unloading site, there was a whining sound coming from the right front corner of the truck. After taking the truck to a dealer for inspection, it was found that the right front wheel hub had to be replaced and that there was a hole in the transfer case and no fluid in it. There were markings and arrows pointing to the hole, which had been patched somehow. This also had to be completely replaced. Total cost of repairs was $3646.

Desired Settlement: To be completely reimbursed for these repairs.

To whom it may concern:

We received an inquiry on Oct. 3rd from Mr. ******** regarding a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 4X4 with 102151 miles that we recently traded for. When we traded for the truck I test drove it and engaged the 4 wheel drive system to be sure it worked properly. It engaged and and disengaged without an issue and the truck was offered for wholesale in as-is condition. Because of the year model and mileage we would be unable to find a lender to finance it so, ( like all of the other wholesale type vehicles that we trade for and sell), there is no warranty promised or assumed.

We agreed to a sale price and transportation to ND was arranged. The truck was delivered on or about Oct. 18th. Nearly eight weeks later I received a call from Mr. ******** asking us to pay for repairs to the vehicle. The buyers order was stamped with an “ as-is “ disclaimer next to the sale price which the customer signed, and was also signed at the bottom of the form by Mr. ********.

I don’t mean to sound unsympathetic to Mr. ********’s situation, but I also do not know how the truck was used or driven between the time of delivery and the time of the stated need of repair. That being said, I do not believe we should be responsible for any part of the repair bill.


Consumer Response: There is no way this vehicle was at a wholesale price. It was close to retail with a $1K reduced price accepted. This dealers story is getting bigger all the time. They should not state conditions of a vehicle without checking them out. Again, working condition does not describe the transfer case on this truck with a patched hole in it and no fluid. They also could not decide if all their vehicles go thru the service dept or. not. I was told both stories. Also, if they would have even test drove this truck on the street, they should have noticed the whine coming from the front wheel hub. Everyone should be wary of buying or doing business with this dealership, they have no clue what they are doing.
