Fake Calls Pretending to be from GECU in El Paso

May 18, 2011
Phone call/text scams will always be around as long as phones are. I got a call from a fake GECU robocall this afternoon asking me to enter my debit card number.
If it's not a robocall, it's a text, or an email. We all get them. They claim our account has been "compromised" or there's been a "fraud".
Although we constantly warn the public about this, there is always someone that gets scammed.
The aim of these scams is to:
1. Steal your identity when you provide them with personal info
2. Drain your bank account or abuse your credit card
3. Get you to wire money somewhere or cash a false check
When in doubt, investigate & confirm.
