The BBB suggests you use a local established contractor. Check with the City Inspector's office to be sure the company has secured the proper bonds and permits.
All agreements and oral promises regarding a home improvement project should be in writing to protect both the customer and the contractor. Never sign a partial or blank contract.
Never pay a contractor for the entire job in advance and avoid paying in cash whenever possible. The BBB suggests that no more than 30% of the contract be paid before work is started. Never make final payment or sign an affidavit of final release until you are satisfied with the work done and know that all subcontractors and suppliers have been paid.
