The Nice List

Our BBB offers customers the chance to write reviews about companies they’ve worked with. These are a few kind words we’ve seen about Accredited Businesses in the past month.

Yellowstone Alpen Guides (West Yellowstone, MT)

Two years ago my mother, and my wife and I took a winter tour of Yellowstone Park with Yellowstone Alpen Guides and it was a great experience. Our guide was very accomodating and went out of his way to please us. We are planning to return this winter and take another tour with the same company. Yes I would recommend Yellowstone Alpen Guides to anyone.  ~Jerry

Condron Homes (Spokane, WA)

If you are looking for a professional, honest, hardworking builder, at a decent bid/price, this is the one. ***** ******* and his crew are simply awesome to deal with. We have just moved into our new home they built to our specifications through telephone conversations and e-mail while we were still in Alaska. Doing business this way you have to have absolute faith in the contractor to do the right thing. I knew nothing about any contractors in the Spokane area. I did research through the internet to check on past performance and recent work by residential contractors and came up with a handful of desirable contractors. I am a retired construction Contracting Officer for the *** ***** in Alaska for almost 20 years. I know when a contractor is good or not. I guarantee you this company is everything you'd want. Dependable, reliable and goes beyond all expectations. I would gladly do business with them again and refer them to anyone. ~Michelle J.

Double Spurs Creative, LLC (Belgrade, MT)

****** and Double Spurs has designed & developed new websites and have done SEO for several of our companies and they are wonderful to work with. The new website projects went great from start to finish - we are very pleased. Now that the sites are live, their response time regarding any calls or emails we send to them is great - always making our update requests quickly and efficiently. It's just nice to be able to work with an honest, hard working company again. They're hard to find these days. Thank you Double Spurs!! ~Marcy D.

Wright Brothers Sunrooms, LLC (Spokane Valley, WA)

Wright Brothers was the only outfit we could find that had a "can do" attitude about replacing our leaky Pella over head sunroom windows. They not only talked the talk they did the job on time and within the estimate. When I told them I found that the sunroom support beam was rotten he assured us that this was no problem-they would just replace the beam! (Which they did)(and at a reasonable cost). We wholeheartedly recommend Wright Brothers. ~Hillis J.

BBB Gold Buying Investigation Finds Advertising Claims to be Unsubstantiated

Better Business Bureau conducted an undercover investigation involving twelve gold buying retailers advertising “Top Dollar Paid,” “Top Price Paid,” and similar ad claims as part of BBB’s Advertising Review program. Both BBB accredited and non-accredited Spokane area pawn shops, gold and coin retail stores and a jeweler were randomly selected for the secret shop investigation.

Gold items used in BBB’s investigation were appraised at $593 with an anticipated purchase offer of $361.98 - $455. Offers from gold buying retailers varied greatly, ranging from $187 to $510, averaging $374.37 for the jewelry being appraised.

Of the twelve businesses shopped, seven were using some sort of “top dollar paid” advertising claim. When asked if the business would beat a competitor's price, all seven businesses declined.

Gold buying retailers advertising the "Top Dollar Paid" ad claims have been requested by BBB to modify or discontinue specific claims unsubstantiated by the secret shop investigation. To date, only one business has chosen not to modify their advertising. Businesses not abiding by BBB’s Code of Advertising will have their online BBB Business Review updated with custom text regarding their unsubstantiated claim, rating updated, and if BBB accredited, revocation of BBB Accreditation.

BBB offers the following advice to consumers looking to offload gold or other items:

  • Be wary of any advertiser stating ‘top dollar paid,’ ‘best,’ or lowest price,’ without providing tangible substantiation for the claim.
  • Get estimates from three different businesses and choose the best option for you.
  • Choose reputable gold buyers by checking with BBB at
Better Business Bureau was founded on the principle that businesses should advertise honestly, and our Advertising Review program continues to be a core function of BBB’s mission.

Consumers, businesses and competitors are encouraged to submit advertising claims to BBB for review at

Clearing the Air

If there are any corrections or clarifications to make with any previous Naming Names releases, our policy is to post it and make it known in the next month’s Naming Names.

Naming Names summarizes our region’s complaints for the previous month. Businesses that are called out have either failed to answer consumer complaints filed with the BBB, or they have received a high volume of complaints. We encourage ethical business standards and hold both accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable.

If any Accredited Business does not comply with our standards, the BBB suspends Accreditation and sends their status to the Board of Directors for review. Corrections and clarifications to previous Naming Names are welcome. Please send any questions or comments to
