The Naughty List

What is Naming Names about? Ethics and accountability. The Better Business Bureau seeks to advance marketplace trust by holding both BBB Accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable for their actions. Repeat Offenders

Repeat offenders are companies that have a large number of complaints closed within a month; not based on their responses to complaints. The following businesses had 5 or more complaints closed in the month of May.

The Nice List

Our BBB offers customers the chance to write reviews about companies they’ve worked with. These are a few kind words we’ve seen about Accredited Businesses in the past month.

NW Running Lab, LLC (Deer Park, WA)

My name is Greg and I've been running for three years. I have run several Ultra Marathons and need to keep my body free of injuries. I developed an injury in my left hip that involved my sciatica nerve and as a result I would have pain with running and even with sitting. I tried everything to correct my problem, new shoes, doctors, yoga and nothing worked. Then I tried the professional Staff at NW Running Lab and they were able to help me identify the problem and clarify my symptoms. After analyzing my running stride, it was determined that my running mechanics were slightly off.. As it turns out, I was diagnosed with "classic" piriformis syndrome and I was provided with specific exercises that enabled me to strengthen my core, legs and alter my running mechanics. I now can train each day without pain in my leg and have the tools to help keep body injury-free. Thank you NW Running Lab, I would recommend you to runners of all experience levels. ~Greg C.

Alligator Performance (Coeur D’Alene, ID)

Amazing!!! Alligator Performance has great prices, fast shipping and the best customer service in the industry. The people there have become like family to me and I have never even been to their state or even close before nor met any of them in person. ADP has great technical support both via the internet on forums and on the phone. They constantly publish videos and blog write-ups for customers to learn how to improve their troubleshooting, modification and mechanical skills. I've had numerous times where I need a part asap because my truck broke or I was half way through a project and missing something and they always have or can get EXACTLY what I need and I get it the very next day! The General Manager Vinny makes the company what it is and pours his soul into the job, the customers and improving the industry to make it a better place for all. I recommend Alligator Performance to everyone who enjoys saving money and getting the best products for their money! ~Shane H.

Markel Properties (Kennewick, WA)

Adina ****** of Markel Properties assisted me in the selling of my condo in 2011. She answered questions for me I was not smart enough to ask, led me through the whole procedure from beginning to end. Adina is knowledgeable and willing to take the time to share that knowledge. She always returned my calls and took the time to make sure I understood what was going on every step of the way. You could not find a more trustworthy and hard working realtor. ~Barbara D.

Rolling Hills Eye Care (Pullman, WA)

Dr. Paulson has been my eye doctor for many years. Him and his staff have always treated me in a respectful manner. They have always acted in a proffessional manner. After an examination over a year ago Dr. Paulson expressed concerns about my health and strongely encouraged me to have a comple physical examination. My regular Doctor had retired and I had not seen a MD for some time. I finally did go to a medical doctor for an exam and found I had high blood pressure and type II diabetes. I have to thank Dr. Paulson for encourging me to see the medical doctor. ~Jerry C.

Looking Forward... Tips You Can Trust

Gadgets, Gift Cards, and More – Don’t Fall Victim to a Father’s Day Shopping Scam

According to the US Census Bureau, there are 70.1 million fathers across the nation – that’s a whole lot of dads, and whole lot of Father’s Day gift givers that could fall victim to a shopping scam.

As we look to celebrate this special day with the men we love, make sure to get information on refund, exchange and warranties in writing. Don’t hesitate to ask if there is a return time limit, and get a gift receipt to enclose with your gift in case Dad needs to take it back.

Gift Cards and Certificates: Check the terms and conditions of any gift card or certificate prior to purchase to ensure that the expiration date and any other conditions won’t be problematic. If you are giving a gift card to someone who will make online purchases, be sure the gift card is redeemable for Internet shopping and not just for in-store use.

Electronics: Whether you plan to give Dad a camera, GPS system, phone, music player, DVD player or other electronic device, be sure that you don't remove it from its box before wrapping it up as a gift. Many electronics stores require the original packaging in order to process returns or exchanges.

Recreational Rentals: If you’re interested in renting ATVs, campers, canoes, kayaks, motorcycles or other recreational equipment this Father’s Day, be sure that you get a written contract that includes details such as the base rental cost, daily fees, insurance and time restrictions. Also, take the time to visually inspect the rental and get written proof of any existing damage before renting the equipment.

Guides, Tours and Classes: Fishing, sightseeing, skydiving and golf lessons are a fun way to celebrate and spend time with Dad. However, it’s important to get details about these classes and adventures in writing and in advance of the trip.

What's Shakin' With Your BBB?

BBB on TV = Visibility for YOU!

On June 8, 2012, our CEO, Elea Katzele, will be on Let's Talk Spokane, a local talk show. You may be wondering why we're so excited to be on a television talk show. Here's the deal: we are constantly looking for opportunities to improve visibility for our Accredited Businesses.
Let's Talk Spokane provided an opportunity for Elea to really dive into what the Better Business Bureau is and why we are so passionate about a trustworthy marketplace. When we can talk about the standards that Accredited Businesses uphold in our community, it reminds consumers to make educated buying decisions and seek out trustworthy companies like you.

(If you're in the Spokane area, tune in on June 8th at 11 am after The View or Saturday, June 9th at 6:30 am. Let us know what you think!)

Love to talk! Will travel!

We also realize that we cover a big region with only one main office. Our goal is that every city in our coverage area knows what the BBB does and why every consumer should choose Accredited Businesses. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

If you can think of any local talk shows, publications, bloggers, radio shows, community groups, TV shows, etc. that should know more about the BBB, LET US KNOW! We travel all year long throughout Eastern Washington, North Idaho, and Montana. Let us know what should be on our agendas when we're in your neck of the woods! (Also, our PR person really likes to talk. A lot. So we'd like to send her on a trip or two to give us a break.)

Clearing the Air

If there are any corrections or clarifications to make with any previous Naming Names releases, our policy is to post it and make it known in the next month’s Naming Names.

Naming Names summarizes our region’s complaints for the previous month. Businesses that are called out have either failed to answer consumer complaints filed with the BBB, or they have received a high volume of complaints. We encourage ethical business standards and hold both accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable.

If any Accredited Business does not comply with our standards, the BBB suspends Accreditation and sends their status to the Board of Directors for review. Corrections and clarifications to previous Naming Names are welcome. Please send any questions or comments to
