CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH: Mystery Shopping Scam Uses the Good Name of BBB Accredited Business, Advantage IQ of Spokane, WA
AB in no way affiliated with this Scam
On February 15, 2011 the BBB received information that a company called Cutting Edge Research falsely claims to be a subsidiary of Advantage IQ of Spokane, and is pitching a Mystery Shopper Training scam offer to consumers.
Scammers posing as Cutting Edge Research are sending potential victims fraudulent checks for approximately $3,900, asking them to deposit the check, go shopping with some of the funds, and then wire the balance of funds to Canada.
This scam is in no way associated with this business, as they are also the victim by having their name misused to purport this scam.
If you ever accept a check from an unknown and are asked to “play bank” with funds, take this as a red flag and end your dealings with the group. If the word “wire” ever comes into the conversation, take that, too, as a red flag. If you cash a fake check, you are 100% liable for whatever funds you spend and/or wire.
If you have fallen victim to this scam, we urge you to be pro-active and file a police report as well as take measures to further secure your personal information by contacting the places associated with what info you have compromised.
