The Nice List

Our BBB offers customers the chance to write reviews about companies they’ve worked with. These are a few kind words we’ve seen about Accredited Businesses in the past month.

Annuity Straight Talk LLC (Whitefish, MT)

“Approaching retirement age can be very unsettling. I had invested in the stock market with various companies and was not finding the satisfaction of knowing where I was going in regard to my retirement. Straight talk annuity struck my interest and I emailed Bryan. When we talked, I found him to be very sincere and not at all pushy like so many salesmen. He walked me through the process of purchasing an annuity and gave me the tools and education to understand what I was doing. I now have a life long business friend that will be there to assist me financially when I need it. I have recommended Bryan's services to my friends and would recommend him to anyone young or old. It's never to early to start investing. I now have a great peace of mind and am looking forward to a secure retirement. Thank you, Bryan.” ~Janet K.

Falco’s Inc. (Spokane Valley, WA)

“I have complete confidence in Falcos. We purchased a wood insert. We had some unique challenges with the design of our double sided fireplace and with the style of our mantle. Falcos worked with us to determine just the right model. The follow-up was terrific. The staff are very knowledgeble and friendly. I felt like a long term customer from the moment I walked in the store. They will go above and beyond what is expected to make sure everything is perfect. I highly recommend Falcos.” ~Darla S.

Trans Doc, Inc. (Post Falls, ID)

“I took a friends car into Trans Doc with an unknown type of transmission problem. The staff took a good look at it and gave us 2 good options with warranties to choose from. We choose to have them completely rebuild the transmission so we would not have to worry about problems with the car again. Mike and the crew at Trans Doc are very easy to work with and true to their word, both on price and timing of having the car ready when promised. I would recommend them withour hesitation.” ~Rocky B.

Sangster Motors, Inc. (Wenatchee, WA)

“I love Sangster Motors . They gave me a great deal on my GMC Canyon and the service department is great . This was my 1st time buying from Sangsters and I'll never go anywhere else.” ~Blake M.

Looking Forward... Tips You Can Trust

6 Tips to Consider Before You Spend this Year’s Tax Refund

Do you spend weeks each spring eagerly anticipating your income tax refund? When the money finally comes in, is it gone tomorrow? You’re not alone. Many consumers view tax refunds as unplanned bonuses, but it makes more sense to plan for that new chunk of change so it doesn’t go to waste.

Whether or not you are in need of debt relief, a tax refund provides the opportunity to improve your financial situation. BBB and Clear Point Credit Counseling Solutions recommend the following tips to tax refund recipients:

Pay down your debt. Refund checks usually arrive when many consumers are still struggling with holiday bills. Use your refund for some much needed debt relief: pay off your credit card. Or, apply your refund toward other debts, like a car loan or a home equity loan.

Consider your financial goals. Are you trying to save for a down payment on a house or car? Do you hope to contribute to your child’s college tuition one day? Consider applying your tax refund toward these goals. If you don’t yet have a set of short-term and long-term financial goals, put one together.

Save it for a rainy day. Why not give yourself an even bigger return on your tax refund by putting the money into a savings account–or an emergency savings account, CD or retirement fund? Your tax refund will continue to grow if you put it into savings or invest the money. Plus, it’s always helpful to have a savings account to draw from when a major car repair bill, medical emergency or other unexpected expense comes along. That way, you don’t have to borrow money and add to your debt-load.

Keep things in perspective. Working your way out of debt can seem like a daunting task, but every little bit helps! Paying down debt takes time, but steadily increasing your monthly payments does have an impact. It may take years to pay off your debt, but your ultimate reward — being debt-free — will be well worth the effort.

Consider investing in your home or in others. Even if your finances are in good shape, your refund check provides the opportunity to improve your life or the lives of others. Use the money to spruce up your home or make it more energy-efficient. Improve your career opportunities by taking a class or training course. Use your refund to teach your older children how to handle money. Give them a portion of the refund and help them budget for school, clothing and entertainment expenses and savings. Finally, you may want to donate your tax refund to a charitable organization. You’ll help improve the lives of others, and your charitable gift may reduce next year’s tax burden. Clearing the Air

If there are any corrections or clarifications to make with any previous Naming Names releases, our policy is to post it and make it known in the next month’s Naming Names.

Naming Names summarizes our region’s complaints for the previous month. Businesses that are called out have either failed to answer consumer complaints filed with the BBB, or they have received a high volume of complaints. We encourage ethical business standards and hold both accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable.

If any Accredited Business does not comply with our standards, the BBB suspends Accreditation and sends their status to the Board of Directors for review. Corrections and clarifications to previous Naming Names are welcome. Please send any questions or comments to info@spokane.bbb.org.
