Complaint: We have an issue and concern relating to your recent services that I feel must be addressed. Roto Rooter is a very well known name so we felt calling you to work on our clogged sewer line, you knew what you were doing. Roto rooter is supposed to be a knowledgeable and honest company and boy did we ever find out different. You sent in a man named ***** on December 7th and within the first hour he could not figure out how to get the snake down the toilet drain so he called a man, the owner, and asked him to come over and help. This man told him how and what to do then left after approximately 10 minutes. Then ***** began making headway and then he was stuck again. About 90 minutes later he still had not gotten anywhere, insisting we had a break in the line, so he called the same gentleman, who came by again and approximately 15 minutes later we were able to flush our toilets again. We were charged for 3 hours of service and with the purchase of the Roto Rooter root destruct totaling $443.21, with plans of not having to deal with it again in 9 or 10 days. We were wrong, everything clogged up again so we called you and you sent out **** who stated the guy who worked on our pipes before was new and learning so that is why it probably took so long. He then began working on the system the same way as the other gentleman and stated the same thing after working for 45 minutes that our pipe is collapsed and there is nothing he can do, charging us an additional $126.47. He only went 15 20 feet while ***** went 50 feet. **** also did not use any knives while ***** used a leader. As homeowners not knowing a whole lot about the sewer line and what to do we had to suffer for an additional 3 days without a toilet, shower, dishwasher, sink, anything involved in sewer line. Thank goodness we had access to a shower and a bathroom when we needed it, but to get there we had to load our kids in the car, then drive over to the location, load up again, and head back to the house and we are not a small family. My husband began digging thru dirt and breaking concrete to find this probably collapsed line after work and worked in the night digging with his oldest son and they found nothing. He ended up catching a terrible cold and we still did not have use of the plumbing in our home. The next morning he called his work to take the day off and then we called the City of Richland because we did not realize we needed to call before we dig, plumbing issues are not a common issue in our household. They sent a gentleman to our home within the hour of our call who told us we were on track and probably just need to go a little deeper. He also recommended we call the ***** *******, which we did, thank goodness. The ***** ******* gentleman said well if it is not working through the toilet area then lets try the roof, and in 15 minutes if even that long we had a running sewer line. He also stated he did not feel the sewer line was broken and stated if we have the same problem again he guarantees his work, unlike Roto Rooter. He did pull out a whole bunch of roots which he stated caused the clog. Spending almost $600 dollars for nothing is just insane and I feel we deserve some of our money back. We are thoroughly disappointed with your services and await your response.

Desired Settlement: A min. of $400. We should be refunded for everything but the first call that was mainly solved when the owner dropped by for a total of 30 minutes. I took off the additional because we purchased the roto rooter drain cleaner which I will happily return for a refund.If you would have done it correctly the first time, we never would have had to call the ***** ******* to fix what you couldn't and having to pay another $160

In answer to your complaint I would like to point out a couple of items.

1). Going down the roof vent did not accomplish better results than what was done from the inside. You only have 2" vents and cannot get proper size blades

through these vents.

2). Your problem is that the roots have grown into the 4" by 6" joint, this is common in

almost every government built house in Richland. While we do the best we can to clean

this area, it cannot be cleaned properly with any cable or blade. Therefore we

recommend it be dug up and replaced, with a proper cleanout installed.

3). Another option would have been to call us when you had a question about where or

how deep you were digging. We could have advised you or even finished digging and possibly installed a 6" cleanout.

4). After carefully reviewing the invoices and details we are willing to Refund you for Invoice # ***** in the amount of $ 126.47 only (?)
