Health Related Promotions - BALDNESS

Most baldness is inherited, and although many kinds of soaps and creams have been touted as having miracle ingredients to make hair grow or retard its falling out, no product has been proven to do so. One drug, minoxidil, which was originally approved to treat hypertension, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for stimulating hair growth on the crown of the head. This topically applied drug is available only through a doctor's prescription. The FDA has (effective January, 1990) banned the sale of any non-prescription hair cream, lotion, or other external product, usually sold by mail or through barbers or beauticians, which claims to grow hair or prevent baldness.
