When having your vehicle serviced by a repair facility, the BBB suggests that your request and get a written estimate. A repair facility is required to provide a written estimate when the cost of the diagnosis, service, or repair of your vehicle will be $20 or more. The estimate must include the list and cost of all necessary parts for a specific job, labor cost, any cost in connection with the return of parts, the cost of shop supplies, the cost of disassembly, inspection and diagnosis of the vehicle, and the cost of reassembling the vehicle in the event that you choose not the authorize repairs.
You have a right to receive back all replaced parts, except those that must be returned to a supplier, or manufacturer, and in those cases, you have a right to inspect those parts.
Be sure to get a detailed written invoice that includes the repairs requested by you, any additional repairs which were deemed necessary and authorized by you and the final invoice should also include the aforementioned items that should be listed on a written estimate.
