BBB gets numerous complaints and calls about vanished garbage company

DENVER – A Jefferson County-based garbage removal company has received an alarming spike in complaints from customers who say they paid in advance for service that is not being delivered, according to the Better Business Bureau of Denver/Boulder. The BBB has received 54 complaints in the last seven days against Environmental Waste Solutions, which has an F-rating with the BBB, the lowest rating possible.

“The level of phone calls and complaints we’ve received against this company in such a short time span is unusual,” said Su Hawk, president and CEO for the BBB of Denver/Boulder.

According to BBB complaints, the company has a history of missing pick up days. However, the BBB has never received this volume of complaints and phone calls regarding the company at any one time. Recent complaints allege customers paid three months in advance for services that ended at the beginning of May. In addition to the recent 54 pending complaints, the company has received 33 complaints during the last three years, most of which were received within the last year. Out of the company’s total complaints, eight were resolved and 24 were unanswered.

The company notified the BBB on Monday that it is currently unable to provide services due to inoperable equipment and that the company is in the process of being sold. The BBB is unclear if or when customers who paid for services in advance will be reimbursed.

Customers affected are encouraged to file a complaint with the BBB and seek services from a new company if possible.
