Westminster High School students participate in BBB SMARTS program and become eligible for exclusive scholarships
DENVER – The Better Business Bureau Foundation announced today its SMARTS internship pilot program at Westminster High School, in partnership with Adams County Education Consortium, College in Colorado and area businesses. The SMARTS Program was founded in 2011 and is evolving this spring to offer program-specific scholarships and establish permanency at Westminster High School in school district Adams 50.
“The SMARTS Program is reaching more youth now than it ever has and now that the opportunities for students include scholarships, we are excited about the greater impact the BBB Foundation is making on the community and its future,” said Brian Cook, Chair of the BBB Foundation Board of Directors.
More than 80 Westminster High School students are being taught the SMARTS curriculum, which provides students aptitudes necessary to be professionally successful through evaluation and demonstration of 21st century skills. In addition to gaining “business smarts,” students learn about ethics and integrity in the workplace, and increase their confidence for academic and career planning. The SMARTS internship part of the program consists of 14 Westminster High School juniors and seniors, and a number of area businesses.
New BBB Student of Integrity Scholarships are being integrated into the SMARTS pilot program and each student participating in the SMARTS internship program is eligible to apply. The BBB Foundation will award three $1,000 scholarships for SMARTS internship participants to use toward higher education in the state of Colorado. Each recipient will be recognized at the Westminster High School Senior Awards Ceremony in May, and at the BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust in October.
