DENVER – The Better Business Bureau of Denver/Boulder announced today five finalists chosen for its BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship. With the generous support of donors to the BBB Foundation, every year at the BBB Torch Award ceremony, the Foundation presents its $10,000 scholarship to a very well-deserving “student of integrity.”

The BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship is awarded to an economically disadvantaged student who has demonstrated exceptional character, leadership, and ethical values. It provides him or her with the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school and become a future leader in Colorado’s workforce.

Out of the record-breaking 137 total applications received this year, the BBB is pleased to announce the five finalists chosen by an all-volunteer selection committee, (in alphabetical order by last name): Jessica Boyd of Platte Canyon High School; Chak Mu of Denver South High School; Rikki Salas of Denver West High School; Miguel Valles of Grand Valley High School and Keylen Villagrana Juarez of Denver West High School.

The students each wrote an essay on how they consider themselves to be passionate character builders and how they motivate their peers. The applications also included letters of recommendation and examples of leadership and community involvement.

The grand-prize winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship, which will be paid in stages during the winner’s four-year college career. The BBB Foundation will also award additional scholarships to first and second runner-ups as additional donations are received.

The recipient of the 2013 Student of Integrity Scholarship will be honored at the annual BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust luncheon on October 18. The BBB Foundation accepts donations year-round for the scholarship. To donate and/or purchase tickets to the Torch Awards, please visit torchbbb.com.
