Inquiries to BBB on the Rise in 2013

August 20, 2013

DENVER – Inquiries to the Better Business Bureau of Denver/Boulder from the public have increased in 2013, the nonprofit organization announced today. Requests for information on businesses, nonprofits and other consumer-related matters increased 17 percent from January through July 2013 compared to the same timeframe in 2012.

The BBB received more than 1.8 million inquiries from the public in 2013. While the most asked-about types of businesses continued to be contractors, the BBB noticed an increase in requests for information this year on property management companies, movers and auto dealers.

“Our services to the public are unique and we are pleased to see even more consumers turning to the BBB for help,” said Su Hawk, BBB president and CEO. “We encourage the public to always use the BBB’s free services to make informed decisions, research businesses and receive one-of-a-kind dispute resolution.”

Complaints to the BBB also increased 9 percent so far in 2013. The large majority of complaints filed with the BBB are resolved favorably. In 2012, 99 percent of complaints filed against BBB Accredited Businesses were resolved and 73 percent of complaints filed against non-BBB Accredited Businesses were resolved.
