Better Business Bureau Foundation Gives $15,000 to Students

October 02, 2012

Denver, CO – October 2, 2012 – At this year’s tenth annual BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust, two students will be honored for exhibiting exceptional integrity and leadership qualities. The BBB Foundation’s $10,000 Student of Integrity Scholarship is awarded each year to an economically disadvantaged student and provides them with an opportunity to continue their education beyond high school and become a future leader in Colorado’s workforce. Additional scholarships are awarded when enough funds are raised.

Thong Phung of Hinkley High School in Aurora won this year’s $10,000 Student of Integrity Scholarship. He impressed the panel of independent judges with his application including a compelling essay about being a passionate character builder, as well as with his personality during the interview process.

An additional scholarship was awarded this year thanks to the generosity of organizations like American Furniture Warehouse, BBB Accredited Businesses, sponsors and donors.

Bobbi Rucker of Manual High School in Denver won a $5,000 scholarship. Her application, essay, and interview also captivated the selection committee.

Each student will be honored and formally presented with his and her scholarships at the BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust luncheon ceremony on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center Hotel in downtown Denver. Donors are able to contribute to the scholarship fund during the Torch Awards luncheon on October 12 and Jake Jabs of American Furniture has again offered to match donations. Thanks to the philanthropy of attendees and all donors, the BBB Foundation will be able to continue to assist Colorado’s future leaders. Visit for more information and/or to purchase tickets to the luncheon.
