Denver, CO – September 27, 2012 – One aspect of bettering the community is to brighten the future of our youth and help create a path for their success. With the generous support of donors to the BBB Foundation, every year at the BBB Torch Award ceremony, the Foundation is able to present a $10,000 scholarship to a very well deserving “student of integrity.”
The BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship is awarded to an economically disadvantaged student who has demonstrated exceptional character, leadership, and ethical values. It provides him or her with the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school and become a future leader in Colorado’s workforce.
Out of the record-breaking 110 applications received this year, your BBB is pleased to announce the five finalists, (in alphabetical order by last name): Tasneem Aliman of South High School, Hiwot Bekele of South High School, Hawi Kuse of South High School, Thong Phung of Hinkley High School, and Bobbi Rucker of Manual High School.
The students each wrote a 400-word essay on how they consider themselves to be passionate character builders and how they motivate their peers. The applications also included letters of recommendation and examples of leadership and community involvement.
The grand-prize winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship which will be paid out over four years. The selection committee may also award additional scholarships to first and second runner-ups if enough donations are received.
The recipient of the 2012 Student of Integrity Scholarship will be honored at the annual BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust luncheon on October 12. The BBB Foundation accepts donations year-round for the scholarship. To donate, please visit http://denver.bbb.org/scholarship.
