Yesterday, at the BBB’s 7th Annual Torch Award for Marketplace Trust, four students were honored for exhibiting exceptional integrity and leadership qualities. The BBB Foundation’s $10,000 Student of Integrity scholarship is awarded each year to an economically disadvantaged student and provides him or her, an opportunity to continue their education beyond high school and become a future leader in Colorado’s workforce.

Haley Ruiz of Otis High School won this year’s $10,000 Student of Integrity scholarship. She impressed the panel of independent judges with her application including a compelling essay about being a passionate character builder, as well as with her personality during the interview process.

Last year, Jake Jabs of American Furniture Warehouse announced that he would match donations to the BBB Foundation’s scholarship fund. Thanks to the generosity of American Furniture Warehouse, other sponsors and BBB Accredited Businesses, additional scholarships were awarded this year.

Shuray Lopez of Adams City High School won a $5,000 scholarship. Reuben Aguirre of Denver West High School and Linda Jimenez of South High School both each won $500 scholarships.

It was a great day for the students, their families, the BBB and all who participated in the program. Donors were able to contribute during the luncheon and Jake Jabs has again offered to match donations. Thanks to this philanthropy, next year the BBB Foundation will be able to assist Colorado’s future leaders once again.
