Complaint: They did not properly pay the painters that they contracted work to, so we had to pay twice. **** ******* with A1 Roofing approached me in November of 2014 to fix our roof after it was damaged by a hail storm. They fixed the roof in November then told me that they would fix the damage to our deck and house once the weather was better for paint. I paid them $7354.06 for the work they completed. They came back in April of 2015 and had hired *** ******* ******** to do the painting portion of the job. On May 14 2015, I gave **** ******* a check for $2266.31 to pay for the rest of the work and the paint. On Monday July 13, 2015 ***** ************ with *** ******* ********* came to my house and told us that they were going to put a lean on our house until they got paid for the work they did on our house. I then called **** (the owner of A1 Roofing) and he told me that they used our money to pay other bills and they did not have any money to give the painters. If I didn't want the lean, then I was responsible to pay the painters $1682.00 for the work they did on my house, even though I had already paid A1 Roofing.

Desired Settlement: I want to be paid back in full the $1682.00 that I double paid for by A1 Roofing.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 28, 2015/09/17) */ the dispute between pro classic painting and a1 roofing should be resolved between them. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 30, 2015/09/18) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I agree, however I paid twice so now A1 Roofing owes me money. Your response is unacceptable.

Complaint: Failure to provide warranty paperwork and certificates of installation. My roof was installed in July of 2012 and upon completion, an email was sent to me, by ******* **** and Rainbow Ironshell, stating full warranty paperwork and certificates of installation were provided to my mortgage company and insurance company, per my request. I was never given any warranty paperwork myself and after asking for nearly 3 months, in 2012, I was told ******* **** left his employment with A1 roofing and they would have to "investigate" my request, alluding to ******* "taking" a lot of files and paperwork with him. After 4 months of requests, the result was no paperwork ever being sent to me. I recently discovered no warranty paperwork or certificates were ever provided to my insurance company or mortgage company. For the last two months, I have attempted to contact A1 Roofing, regarding warranty paperwork and a certificate showing Class 4 shingles were installed on my roof. Since July 1st, I have called 67 times and left 13 messages. Only 3 times, has anyone ever answered the phone. The first two times, I had male employees hang up on me when I requested their name. On August 13th, I spoke to someone named ********* who said they would retrieve the paperwork and send it to me. I provided an email address and verified my mailing address. I have not received any response and cannot get anyone to return my messages or even answer the business phone.

Desired Settlement: Immediately provide me with all warranty paperwork and in addition to the warranty paperwork, provide me with certificates of installation showing that Class 4 Storm shingles were installed on my roof.

Complaint: The company fails to communicate and fails to complete the work they agreed to do. The company agreed to repair all damages caused by the hail storm in our area on July 7th 2014. After they some arguments with my insurance adjuster, the Company changed to only repair part of the damage, then later, after more issues, they repaired the roof and windows screens and sent an email that they could not get contractors for the rest of the work. I made arrangements for the rest of the work to be completed, both Painting and window repair. During this time the company has made several 'Demand for Payment' that have been both rude and threating. Communication from the company has been totally unacceptable, threating, confusing, and without regard to what they agreed to do.

Desired Settlement: Adjusted billing.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 18, 2015/05/19) */ i did not receive this complaint until wensday May 6. It came direct from ashleighs email, not the complaint line. WE have discussed this problem numerous times ,both with ashleigh and heather before that. In regards to mr ******* We were able to reach mr ****** we he returned from his business trip and explain the billing to his satisfaction. he subsequently paid in full on 4 20 2015 when he fully understood that we billed only for the work that we completed.

Only records that have ever been opened to me was a master list that he said was list of all the roofs that had been replaced. That list was provided back in January to me where I had to sit in the office and did not get paid for any of my work for over 24 hours. Since then we have gone through other list and contact people and there are a lot of other roofs that have been replaced and I was never compensated for. As for the hours that I have not been compensated for We're hours that I worked doing leads and he said I did not meet a quota of houses. In our original agreement there was never a amount of houses that I would have to put flyers on her speak to you and one day I am still owed for 20 hours of work plus the 24 hours that I was owed for having to work in the office and not get paid. I have not charged to Mr. O'Donnell for all the time that I had to wait in the office to get paid and had to wait in the office for him for other things. Complaint: Roof installed with no permit, non-compliant with county code, no ice and water underlay, used rusted flashing. 101 Allen Circle, Pine, CO Roof Replacement on or about August 1, 2014 as condition of sale. Sellers hired A-1 Roofing. A-1 estimator: Lance Property Owner at that time: Ted Spiewak Foremost Insurance CO Claim: XXXXXXXXXX-X-X Deficiencies Found: A-1 Roofing failed to obtain a permit for the roof replacement; A-1 Roofing failed to comply with Park County Building Code requirements; A-1 Roofing failed to comply with the roofing manufacturer's requirements; A-1 Roofing failed to install an ice and water shield underlayment; A-1 Roofing used heavily rusted flashings; and A-1 Roofing failed to provide for proper ventilation of the roof. When we, the current owners, discovered a leak from the roof on our back porch, we contacted A-1 several times, and were told that someone would come by to inspect/repair the problem. Suffice it to say that never happened. Pursuant to discovering the leak, we had the roof inspected and the above deficiencies were found. The inspection also found that the roof will have to be replaced for a total of $14,745.16. A-1 Roofing remains non-responsive...

Desired Settlement: The only reasonable resolution, given A-1's non-responsiveness, and the poor quality of workmanship from A-1 Roofing, our desired resolution is for A-1 to remit to us, or to our contractor of choice, the cost of a new roof which is $14,745.16.

Complaint: Unable to received an itemized bill for services after multiple requests. Work not completed as contracted, wrong color gutters, roofing not complete After multiple attempts to receive an itemized statement from the contractor I have yet to be provided one. They installed the wrong color gutter on my house which I requested them to replace or paint. They have given me two separate dates to complete the gutter replacement and have not shown up either time. They also damaged siding when replacing my roof and have several trim pieces that need to be installed still as the roofing subcontractor was not provided with enough trim pieces to complete the job. Was told they would send someone out to look at damage and determine what trim needs to be completed and that has also not happened. Roof was replaced on 10/26/14. All I am looking for is resolution, provide an itemized bill, replace or paint gutters, and finish roof work. I have already paid $6800.00 of the $6806.48 agreed to for the roof. I have paid nothing for the gutter work to date. Based on the agreement and work completed (if they replace the gutters or paint them) I owe them $6.48 + $1,097.18 = $1,103.66. Their invoice (not itemized) states I owe them $2,232.34.

Desired Settlement: Complete work agreed to, provide itemized bill for payment.

A1 Roofing sent homeowner final invoice per insurance settlement, home owner requested line item invoice that was approved by insurance which is called xactimate. A1 Roofing provided homeowner with telephone number of adjuster so they could send out revised line item xactimate to homeowner. Insurance company will only send them revised paper work & we are all at the mercy of of the insurance adjuster on returning phone calls. It should also be noted that we installed an upgraded class iv impact resistant shingle at no cost to the homeowner. We offer this to all our customers as it allows them to save approximately 30% of the cost of their insurance annually.

Complaint: All we want is for A-1 to replace the shingles so that they match the rest of the roof and that the shingles be properly and firmly attached. In July, 2013 A-1 Roofing replaced our home's roof at a cost of $13,773.82. As part of our agreement, A-1 warrantied the workmanship for 5 years. Five to six months later, a large yellowish stain appeared on the front part of the roof that was very noticeable from the ground. We made many calls to A-1 regarding this stain, with most of the calls being ignored. Finally, we were told that the problem was not their responsibility. A-1 determined from pictures taken by them on three separate occasions that the stain was caused by a pipe inside a nearby vent and therefore not their problem. At our own expense we had two trips made by a company that could handle the "pipe" problem. Both times that company made very clear that it was not normal to have an internal pipe rust out as A-1 had stated based on their pictures. It was clearly determined by the other company that when the nearby vent was painted by A-1 at the end of the roof replacement, they had used a poor quality paint that did not hold up to normal weather conditions. The other company took the customer service initiative and charged us for one hour and painted all of our roof vents with a better quality paint so that such staining would not happen again. A-1 also tried to claim that the problem was happening prior to the roof replacement, even though there had not been a sign of that happening. All we were asking was for A-1 to live up to their warranty and either clean the stain off the affected roof shingles or replace those shingles. Finally, the owner of A-1 agreed to clean or replace the stained shingles. On May 5, 2014, A-1 sent an individual to take care of the problem. Mrs. ***** was home at the time and discussed the problem with him. He stated that he could not clean the stain off and would have to replace the affected shingles. He replaced the affected shingles and promptly left without informing her so she could review his work. From the ground it appeared that he had not replaced the stained shingles with the same colored shingles as the rest of the roof. When Mr. ***** returned from work later that day, he climbed on to the roof and saw that the replacement shingles were not the same color as the rest of the roof and further the replacement shingles has not been fully nailed or glued down. The next day Mrs. ***** called the President of A-1 and made it clear that she wanted him to come over and see for himself that the repair job was not properly done. Finally the owner returned her call on May 14, 2014 and seemed surprised how displeased we were and wanted him to schedule a time when both of us could discuss the repair problem. Although he wanted us to take pictures and send them to him, we insisted that he needed to come and see for himself. He then told Mrs.***** that he didn't have anything going on "down south" and he would call when he did so he could make some time to come by. As of the date of this complaint, we have not heard from him.

Desired Settlement: All we want is for A-1 to replace the shingles so that they match the rest of the roof and that the shingles be properly and firmly attached to the roof so that we have the roof that we contracted for.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 20, 2014/07/11) */ We are sorry that Mrs. ***** is experiencing a problem. The situation she is describing is caused by rust and ash from the HVAC exhaust stack, mixed with water this combination will cause discoloration on a light colored roof. This is an aesthetic issue not a workmanship issue. We have taken care of the issue as a courtesy to our valued customer. We used an exact match shingle, that because its new may seem brighter than the surrounding shingles however they will blend together over time. The shingles are held down with 6 nails so there should be no worries about the shingles blowing away. At the time A1 Roofing installed Mrs. *****'s roof we offered a 5 year workmanship warranty, we now offer a fully transferablde Lifetime Warranty, and Mrs. ***** can take comfort and security in the fact that A1 Roofing will be there standing behind our Workmanship and materials for the life of the roofing system. If there are any further questions please feel free to contact me at anytime,Thank You *** ****** me at XXX-XXX-XXXX Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 22, 2014/07/24) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) This complaint we have with A-1 Roofing could have been an easy and a basic customer service call. They ignored so many of our calls over many months and denied responsibility to what caused the stain that we were left to figure this out on our own. We are not satisfied and feel that A-1 Roofing and its extreme lack of customer service makes us very concerned for the future of our roof should there be another problem. I feel the certified company we hired and paid for to check this HVAC exhaust stack, which by the way diagnosed that it was not the problem, has a better chance of making an "aesthetic"/"workmanship" call on our roof then the said roofer. And how comic it is to us that after two months and us generating this complaint with the BBB that they are so sorry. Did Mike finally find time to come "south" to check this out as he informed me on the phone on May 14th that he didn't have time then to come south. Funny how this works, they found the time. To bad we ***'t feel so lucky and confident as we feel we should for the cost and size of this project. This leaves us sad and very frustrated and we didn't deserve this. Mr. and Mrs. ***** Final Business Response /* (4000, 30, 2014/08/26) */ There is not now or ever been a roofing issue. Four times a service tech has been dispatched to survey the home. Four times we explained this was a stain coming from an old furnace pipe. On the fourth service call we finally properly conveyed the fact that the pipe was the problem and offered to replace the stained shingles for free after the pipe was replaced. On the fifth service call we replaced the stained shingles. When the customer called saying the shingles were not installed correctly we dispatched a service tech for the sixth time. This tech has over 25 years experience in the roofing field. He inspected and took photos. The shingles are installed correctly. The color is the correct color. There is not now nor ever was anything wrong with this roof.We now have six trips and two replies to the bbb for a problem that is not related to a1 roofing.

Additional Notes

Complaint: A-1 Roofing repeatedly promised to schedule a date for roof repairs following initial inspection and never returned numerous follow-up telephone calls In the Fall of 2013 we experienced a roof leak at our home following heavy rains. We contacted A-1 Roofing in part because they are a BBB Member. A-1's employee*************** visited our house, inspected the roof, identified the problem, and provided a repair estimate. We stated we wanted to proceed with the repairs. Mr. ********* said the Co. was busy with work in Boulder but would call back to schedule the work. He called three weeks later to schedule the work and we promptly returned his call and left a message that we were ready to proceed with the repair. My wife called him three times and left messages; no calls were returned. We then repeatedly called A-1's main office number and spoke to someone else named "*****". Each time, "*****" took a message and said someone would call us back immediately. No one ever returned a single phone call. On my last call with "*****" I asked to speak to a supervisor who could help me get the repairs scheduled. "*****" would not put me through to a supervisor. It has now been nearly six months since A-1 promised to schedule and complete our roof repairs. After more than 10 phone calls to the company or its employees, no one has ever called us back to schedule the work. Since A-1 inspected the damage shortly after it occurred we felt they were in the best position to understand the needed repairs and, therefore, we continued to try to work with them. If the job is too small, they are too busy, or they simply aren't interested in our business, they could have simply told us and we would have found another company. A-1's handling of this matter has been the epitome of abyssmal customer service.

Desired Settlement: I still need my roof repaired. Based on the experience to date with A-1 Roofing, I do not know whether I can trust them to do the work, or whether I should simply register this complaint as a warning to other prospective customers of that company then go elsewhere for my repairs.

Business Response: Business Response /* (-10, 22, 2014/05/13) */ Apologies for the delayed reply. Since this complaint we have inspected Mr. *********'s roof and have be told to wait for he and his wife to make a decision. We are still awaiting approval from Mr. *********. Business Response /* (1000, 24, 2014/05/13) */ Apologies for the delayed reply. Since this complaint we have inspected Mr. *********'s roof and have be told to wait for he and his wife to make a decision. We are still awaiting approval from Mr. *********. Consumer Response /* (-5, 28, 2014/05/14) */ Following our complaint to the BBB and notice from the BBB that the company had been advised of the complaint, we waited several weeks before we were contacted by the company via a voicemail message. It then took several more weeks before we could actually speak to company management during which time we received the same treatment that led to the original complaint, i.e., being told the person was not available and would call us back right away but then didn't. Eventually, we spoke with company management who apologized for the numerous problems, committed to have someone come to the house to inspect the situation, and offered to do the repairs at no cost. While we appreciated the "no charge" offer, we were more than willing to pay a fair price to have the repairs performed correctly. Eventually, a company representative visited the house to inspect the situation and provide an estimated cost. We were very concerned, however, that the explanation of the needed repairs was substantially different from what was described when the company first sent an inspector to the house several months ago. Furthermore, the explanation of the needed repairs was not consistent with the explanations that we received from other companies we had consulted with while trying to resolve things with A-1 Roofing. Ultimately, given the poor customer service over a period of many months and the inconsistent explanation of what work needed to be done, we had no confidence at all that A-1 Roofing would do a good job on our repairs. We opted to use another company who promptly responded to our inquiries and carried out the repairs professionally. Based on our experience, we would not recommend A-1 Roofing to anyone. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Complaint: We have been lied to by A1 to include fraudulent work (claimed they performed work & replaced vents when they did not). Very poor customer service On 9/9/09 we had our roof replaced by **, this included a 5 year workmanship warranty. On 9/10/13 we had a large leak in the roof damaging drywall. Upon inspection by a 3rd party it was determined ** never replaced the roof jack & vents set forth in our contract. They used the old ones, we have photos showing the damaged vents they used and painted over. We contacted them on 9/10, they claimed they could not find our file anywhere & asked if we could fax them our documents. I have done this on two occasions b/c they lost it again. We have been told on multiple occasions that they would resolve the issue but they never show or call when they say they will. ***** came out and claimed he replaced the roof jack in twenty minutes, later found out he lied and just caulked around the pipe during a rain storm. On 9/27 I asked to speak to the owner they forwarded me to Don Warner voicemail, left a message. Don called back that evening, said this was the first he heard of it and wanted to "research it" and wanted to come out the following day 9/28 as he would be in Boulder and could stop by that afternoon. He never called or showed up. On 10/4 I left a message for ******* O'******* at 3:40pm. Never heard back from him. On 10/11 I spoke with **** he determined that ***** had lied about the work he performed at our house and wanted to speak with the owner and would call back in ten minutes, never called back. I called **** on 10/18 and he said he would be sending out *** ******* the next day 10/19 between 9-10 am to replace the roof jack. Rob never showed. **** has assured me that he would honor the warranty and fix the roof & drywall damage caused from the poor workmanship and fraudulent practices of A-1. At this point I have been more than patient as over a month has past and nothing has been resolved. The pictures the best picture in that they did not replace roof jacks & vents as stated in the contract and reused the old damaged ones and pocketed the money I paid for the new parts. This I very disturbing and criminal in nature.

Desired Settlement: I would like my roof and interior drywall fixed. The poor workmanship by A-1 caused a roof that leaks and has caused interior damage. I have also lost several hours of time trying to resolve this including lost time from work. I want nothing more than to be made whole. I am extremely disappointed in this company and several of my neighbors went with them as we did, this is now concerning. I would like these repairs to be made ASAP and for it to be inspected as all trust in this company is gone. If this can not happen I will have another company repair the roof and my insurance company has agreed to sue A-1 to recoup losses. I would also file a criminal complaint if repairs are not completed. I want nothing more than I was promised, a quality roof with "superior" workmanship.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 18, 2013/12/26) */ Our apologies, but the response that was posted from the business was in error. An accurate response from the company will be posted soon. Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 22, 2013/12/30) */ I am concerned why this complaint has been closed? A1 Roofing has not resolved the issue. In fact A1 does not even return multiple phone calls I have left for them. A1 own employees have stated that "they don't know why materials were reused as they typically replace all vents etc..." ***** & ***** told me this. I contracted with them to replace all vents. As for the claim they are not responsible for interior damage after 90 days? This is not what was explained to me by **** as recently as 12/27/13 at 8:35 a.m. He stated that their drywall guy "Scott" was suppose to have come out to our house already and repaired the drywall" He was shocked this did not happen and he would speak to his boss and call me back. Per their business practice he never called back. This has been ongoing & I have been more then patient. I have sufficient evidence including photographs and professional opinions to show the poor workmanship and fraudulent practices of A1 roofing. It is very disappointing that a "local" company would treat it's customers with such a lack of respect. I would be happy to provide the BBB with any photographs or evidence needed. This claim is far from being resolved. Mr. ****** claims in his response that . "Using the BBB to try and expedite any work or get extra work done that is outside of warranty coverage is not appropriate and not within our agreement with the BBB". What Mr. ****** fails to understand is that his employees including himself failed to respond to my simple request that he honor his warranty. I could not even get a phone call returned? What other options did I have Mr. ******? It is clear to anyone who steps foot on my roof that he re-used materials & did a poor job installing the roof. Mr. ****** replaced the jack and that was it. I had to provide the spray paint so it would match the house. Lastly, as his own employee who was on our roof stated there was several nail holes near the jack indicating they originally placed the shingle in the wrong spot, pulled it up and moved it. If Mr. ****** does not want to complete the job to satisfaction of his contract then the matter will be resolved in court. The water damage to my interior drywall would have never happened if it was not for the POOR workmanship of his company. I was hoping he would be a stand up local businessman and honor his word but that does not appear to be the case. I do not consider this issue resolved and hope the BBB will consider this matter. I am happy to provide any photographs or reports needed. Thank you for your time. ****** ******** Business Response /* (4000, 38, 2014/03/05) */ Customer has been contacted and warranty issued was explained. Customer agrees roofing issues resolved. We have worked out an acceptable solution for both parties. Consumer Response /* (-5, 43, 2014/03/24) */ From:*************** Sent: Monday, March 24, 2014 12:46 PM To: ************** Subject: RE: Contract-BBB *******, I appreciate all of your help in this matter. I did receive an email around a week ago that A-1 responded, I tried to go on the link with my password and it did not work. I replied to the email sent with this info but never heard back. I am now thinking the email might have been an automated reply? Anyway, A-1 did contact me and our suppose to be sending a guy out tomorrow to repair the roof/drywall. If they actually follow thru with this I will let you know so the complaint can be considered "resolved". As of now the matter is "unresolved". Again, I really appreciate your help, I am certain I would have not gotten a response without your assistance. Best regards, **************

Additional Notes

Complaint: I hired A-1 to fix some flashing over the garage of my home. It wasn't done and water leaked from the affected area into home. I contacted A-1 for repair of a flashing issue over my garage on Sept. 3rd. A repair person came out the next day. I was not able to meet him, but left the inspection report with the needed repairs for him to review. I received a call from the technician who stated that he could go ahead and fix it that day and would call me when he was done with the total of all repairs being $650. This was done and payment was send on Sept. 6th, check #****. The next week, we had rain and the flashing, since it wasn't repaired, allowed water to penetrate into the master bathroom. The new owners contacted their contractor who charged them a total of $300 to fix the water damage and the affected flashing. I reimbursed the new owners the $300 in November, utilizing a temporary check as I had moved and my new checks had yet to arrive. I have tried numerous times to have A-1 back up their warranty (one year) and reimburse me for the added expense and repair. ****, who stated he was the manager, had, at first, stated he would get to the bottom of this, but, as of this date, has not. He has, however, ignored my numerous attempts to get ahold of him and has left me with no choice but to contact the BBB.

Desired Settlement: All I ask for is for A-1 to stand behind the work they claimed they did and that they charged me for and to reimburse me for the added expense to have another contractor come out and fix it.

Business Response: Business Response /* (1000, 20, 2014/03/05) */ In regards to Ms.******' complaint, we repaired the areas that were outlined on the inspectors report, as well as additional repairs. The area that Ms.****** identified as leaking was not an area that was identified by the inspector, therefor it was not in the scope of work that Ms.***** hired us to do. A1 Roofing stands behind its workmanship, however since the area that leaked was not an area that we had worked on we will not be reimbursing Ms.******.
