We hired 5280 Concrete Coatings to install an epoxy coating on our existing 589 square foot patio. The contract stated they were to repair and level out in hot tub area as well as complete Any surface repair will be determined at time of install and to Grind to remove existing surface material, (if any). Per 5280 Concrete Coatings website, Weve designed and trained our teams to evaluate concrete substrates and environments and use Certified Installers. The project commenced on May 12th of 2021 with (Owner/Operator) and his crew to do repairs and prep for the epoxy coating. The crew was in fact family members who didnt have experience with prepping and installing epoxy flooring and indicated to us this was there first time. Instead of grinding to remove the existing material per the contract and product specifications, the crew created layer upon layer of unstable non-cohesive products. Scrap wood flooring we had from a recent remodel was used to create makeshift forms to pour some sort of floor leveler over the top of the existing pebble epoxy patio by our new rock fountain. This resulted in a 5-gallon bucket worth of material in our fountain that had to be chiseled out with a hammer, (see picture). This same leveler was used in various places throughout the patio instead of grinding the surface to a CSP (Concrete Surface Prep) -2 as the product specification sheet from the manufacturer mandates. From May 12th June 28th **** (Over a quarter of the Summer), Concrete Coating had to come back 22 different times to fix problems with the product not adhering properly. The leveler used was not compatible with the epoxy product, time and time again it resulted in a different color on a portion of the patio, and by the hot tub it bubbling up by mid-June. We were told was good it happened now while they are still installing. They simply ground the bubble portion down, no humidity reading was taken once again, and it was bubbling up again within 30 days, and has completely separated and flaked off now. The product specifies that a humidity reading be taken to make sure the relative humidity is lower than 75, or moisture vapor barrier needs to be used. This was never done, and the entire coating has failed catastrophically (see pictures) in locations by the hot-tub as well as bubbling up on the step leading into the house (See picture). The product specifies that is be applied By brush, roller, resin broom or squeegee, **** used a spray application technique, with absolutely no protection for our property. They applied 2 different sheens of sealer coat, taped a straight line across the patio to blend, so as not to apply a uniform coat across the whole surface. (see pictures).We brought to the attention of the Owner/Installer of **** multiple times how drip, how over spray, in adequate prep, no drop clothes and carelessness has resulted in numerous areas that will need to be cleaned. We were assured by owner that acetone and a wire brush will remove the product from our brand-new patio pavers and veneer. Instead, **** utilized an angle grinder that permanently ruined the brand-new patio (see pictures). When confronted over the damage caused by this malicious act of destruction, the response was What do you want?, I said I want you to replace the veneer you ruined, the owner responded, F**k you and walked away. I have contacted someone to put tile/pavers over the patio who said the entire coating would need to be removed because the various layers of coatings have created an unstable substate to adhere to. I also contacted another epoxy coating company who said it was Mind Blowing that they didnt prep the surface by removing the old coating, and that he couldnt do anything until the faulty coating was removed. I have filed a lawsuit against **** Concrete Coating and the owner to get a full refund for this non-merchantable product, as well as to try and recover a portion of the expense to totally remove the faulty coating and replace the existing patio features that were ruined.
