Customer Reviews Summary
|Dec. 09, 2013||Six months ago I moved to the Denver area from Arizona. One of the most daunting and unsettling tasks involved in moving to a new city is finding a completely new group of health care providers. At age 62 with multiple health disorders (one potentially life threatening), I wanted to select a physician who was capable of providing exceptional medical care on a consistent basis. But most important to me, I wanted a physician who would spend quality time with me during office visits and truly care about my health on a personal level.
I had previously been part of the MDVIP (concierge medicine) program in another city and was very pleased with the highly personalized and superior level of care I received---so I turned to MDVIP again. The MDVIP organization accepts only the best of the best primary care physicians, based on a rigorous screening process. In essence, they do the screening and evaluation of doctors for you.
I visited the MDVIP website and found there are only three MDVIP-sanctioned doctors within 50 miles of the city of Denver. After careful consideration, including review of his detailed MDVIP profile on-line and following a free consultation, I selected Dr. Jon Cram as my primary care physician. Some of the factors that influenced me were the glowing testimonials from his patients on the MDVIP website, his possession of a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering in addition to his medical degree, and his time spent as a colonel and flight surgeon in the Air Force. When I read his extremely impressive MDVIP profile, I thought---"What an amazing career he has had, and what an amazing person he must be".
I have been under Dr. Cram's care for a little over 6 months now. I could not be more impressed with Dr. Cram or his kind and caring staff, including his dynamic and engaging wife who is part of his practice. (Behind every great man, there's a great woman?? Obviously so!) Dr. Cram's staff is outstanding ---they try to provide a welcoming and loving environment for all of their patients. When I visit Dr. Cram's beautifully decorated and comfy office, it becomes a sanctuary for me where I feel at home.
My initial office visit with Dr. Cram lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes--the longest routine office visit of my life. I was stunned that a physician of his quality would spend so much time with me in a completely unhurried manner. He questioned me in detail about my entire medical history, ailment by ailment, and actually solicited my input. The interaction between us was a true dialogue between a doctor and a patient---perhaps for the first time in my life. Indeed, I was being treated like a partner in my health care! Dr. Cram laid out a clear plan of action for moving forward, using visual aids and hand drawn diagrams to ensure I completely understood.
I can honestly say that each visit with Dr. Cram has been a pleasure. I always feel important and respected, never feel rushed or hurried, and always enjoy his relaxed and pleasant demeanor. I always feel better when I leave his office than when I walked in. I often don't want to leave, and just want to "hang out" in the lobby with his lovely staff!
Dr. Cram has proven to be much more than just a kind and compassionate physician. His medical competency and proficiency has been equally impressive. A good example of his superior medical and technical skills occurred recently. It started with a visit with Dr. Cram to review some routine blood work results. Even though my cholesterol, LDL, and HDL levels were all within "normal" limits (cholesterol was 175), Dr. Cram recommended (for the first time in my life), that I have a carotid artery ultrasound test done to determine if there is any plaque in my carotid arteries. I was initially reluctant to have the test done, since I didn't think it would reveal anything useful. Also my insurance company would not pay for it. However based on his recommendation, I had the test done. The results of the test revealed that plaque was starting to build up in my carotid arteries--more plaque than is normal for a man of my age. (Apparently the presence of plaque in the carotid arteries places you at higher risk for having plaque in your coronary arteries). I was dumbfounded by the results given my lifelong healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Cram immediately put me on a statin drug. He said to me "We want to keep your arteries in tip top shape". Since being on the statin, my LDL and total cholesterol have both come down to levels I didn't think possible. Also, Dr. Cram explained it is possible the statin drug will actually reverse the buildup of plaque in my arteries over time. I am so grateful to Dr. Cram that I obtained this information now, rather than 10 years from now when the plaque buildup would have been irreversible, or worse yet---following a stroke or heart attack. No other physician had previously recommended any test for arterial plaque, probably largely based on my normal cholesterol levels. However, Dr. Cram obviously surmised something from my data that other physicians didn't. Subsequently, I found out from Dr. Cram that half of all people who have heart attacks have normal cholesterol--a very sobering statistic.
Indeed, Dr. Cram's focus on preventative care is exceptional. To the vast majority of physicians, preventative medicine consists of having a colonoscopy every five years, having a PSA blood test every year, or having a mammogram every year. Dr. Cram takes preventative care to a completely new level. He uses all of his formidable analytical skills and knowledge, and every innovative tool at his disposal to prevent you from having that heart attack or stroke in the first place. Dr. Cram's approach is one of health improvement, not simply health maintenance. Or----in Dr. Cram's simple but profound words, it's about keeping you in "tip-top shape"! |
