Dear BBB Team, we paid $3,000 to Au Pair International on January 24, 2022 and $5,700 on February 20, 2022. The first payment was earmarked for Visa application for our (Spanish) Au Pair, the second one for one year of Au Pair "care" through the agency. Our Au Pair literally refused to help in the household and was on the phone 24/7 with her family and boyfriend. Very little hours were actually worked and clearly, she had no experience with toddlers (our daughter is 11 months old). We informed our local contact and Area Director about the problem and noticed that emails aren't answered on weekends and the agency generally is very slow to respond and answers are incomplete/unsatisfactory. We finally all agreed that our Au Pair is not a match and needed to either return to Spain or to find another family. During this rematch we learned that Au Pair International has very little in country Au Pairs (and a very small number of Au Pairs to select from overall) and will also not pay for the return flight of our Au Pair. This means that the initial $3,000 spent on our Au Pair’s Visa application and flight are already overpaid. Echoing what other BBB complaints about this company state, we consequently learned that Au Pair International will only refund us $3,575 ($325 x 11 months) even though the agency had us believe they could actually help with a rematch and have candidates available. In short, the Au Pair International Agency is underperforming/non performing, is taking clients’ money and is not delivering an equivalent service – and in some cases – no service at all. Hence we are asking for a refund of the second invoice of $5,700.
