Complaint: my husband and myself went through the whole explanation of services, we feel we were mislead. During the explanation we were not informed our fee of 5000.00 would be outsourced to a finance company involving intrest ect. Once we started searching their web sight we realized that any product we bought would have a shipping cost,we were told that we would save a ton of money. I started researching prices online and in town I found I could find the same products at the same cost or even lower. The sales woman was slick telling us we would save tons of money through buying through them. This complaint would have been resolved sooner except I came down with cancer and had to go through chemo therapy which left my husband caring for me and leaving me to sick and weak to do anything.
Desired Settlement: We would like our contract cancelled and the money we have paid refunded,and no negative reporting to any credit agency

We are sorry to learn of our member’s recent health challenges and sincerely wish her a speedy and complete recovery.
On July 28, 2015 the member attended a ninety minute tour presentation at DirectBuy of Northwest Denver. After receiving an explanation of the benefits of a DirectBuy membership, taking a personal tour of our showroom, and given the opportunity to ask any questions she may have, she made the decision to purchase a membership, making an initial down payment and financing the remaining balance.
The member received copies of both the signed Membership Agreement and Retail Installment Contract (RIC) when she purchased her DirectBuy membership. The RIC includes the "truth in lending disclosures", which breaks down the principle, interest, finance charge and total sale price. The RIC also contains a Seller’s Assignment which allows us to transfer the contract to a third party finance company, Beta Finance Company, Inc.
All applicable shipping, handling, and freight fees are fully disclosed during the tour presentation, as well as in the New Member Guide the member received upon joining. Additionally, DirectBuy Inc. offers our members a Pricing Promise (disclosed in the New Member Guide); DirectBuy, Inc. conducts proactive retail price comparison studies to ensure that our members experience maximum savings. If a member should ever find a lower price from a legitimate, local retailer on an identical item that is currently available from a DirectBuy supplier, even if it’s an “advertised special,” we will beat it by at least 10% (terms and conditions apply). We have no record of the member ever requesting a price comparison of any item she was interested in purchasing.
The member’s filing of this complaint is the first notification we received indicating that she was in any way dissatisfied with her DirectBuy membership. Although her request to cancel the membership comes well after the 3-day recession period, we are sympathetic to the member’s current situation and are willing, as a onetime exception, to cancel her membership and forgive the outstanding debt with no refund of fees already paid.
We will send the member the necessary paperwork to complete the cancellation, and instruct Beta Finance Company, Inc. to close the member’s account with a $0 balance upon receipt of the completed paperwork.

The salesperson knew that the company only sold the invites in batches of 25 but failed to advise us of this until after we ordered the invitations. We ended up having to pay extra fees because of the additional invites being a "special order". The salesperson refuses to work with us on this and has just told us that it is not her problem or Direct Buys problem and they are done dealing with us.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/06/17) */ The consumer came in and placed an order for wedding announcements but didn't order enough of them - so we had to place an order for additional announcements based on the following email we received from her: "Sounds fine and please go ahead and place the reorder. We will of course pay for everything that is over the 150 that we ordered and already paid for. We are still short 9 of the RSVP cards and envelopes etc that we pre-paid for. I will work out what we are already paid for and are short on and what we still need to pay for above the 150 if you can give us an idea of what we will still owe. I will email that to you tonight. Thanks." We then received this complaint and also a report from our corporate office regarding this issue. Our member relations rep with my corporate office agreed to split the additional cost and refund her $77.15 as a courtesy and she was happy with the resolution.

We do our best here to clearly define the promtional requirements needed to recieve the Free 9" Tablet. It is stated on the Promotional Mailer and on our website that "Couples must attend together". We also attempt to call and email each person setting an appointment to cover the qualification along with directions.
