|Aug. 06, 2014||I took my 1994 Nissan Altima GXE in for service to Boulder Nissan on June 14, 2014. The car was almost impossible to start with the key. Only someone using a lot of force could start the car. I explained the problem and told them I suspected it was the ignition switch based on research, however, their mechanic diagnosed it as a starter issue. The starter was replaced yet the car was still impossible to start. After wasting the whole day waiting on my car, I was told I would have to leave the car until Monday; it was a Saturday. I was told that they normally only performed oil changes on the weekend and that their "expert" mechanics only worked Monday through Friday. I was not told this when I called to make the appointment and my appointment was not for an oil change.
The mechanic was extremely rude to me when I insisted that the car could be started but just with a lot of force. He didn't believe me. Things got worse when I told him that there was a third party alarm on my car and that in order to start it, they would have to press the off button on the remote. He huffed and puffed and insisted he wasn't informed about it and that the issue had to be the alarm system. Hmm. I guess when I handed them the key that had the remote attached to it with "On" and "Off" written on it they thought it meant to turn off the music?
Bu anyway, I told him it wasn't the alarm system and that my roommate could start the car. His attitude got even worse and since it was about closing time, he ended up leaving without even switching out the starter they tried to sell me. However, at this point, I didn't even know that because I had told them that I needed my car and they needed to put my starter back in.
I had to call my roommate to come to Boulder Nissan and pick me up. They left one of their auto detailers there to wait with me. When my roommate arrived, he used the same key and remote and with force was able to start the car in front of the guy that was left there, several times. He was shocked and after my roommate told him how he was using force, the detailer guy was able to start the car. I took my car because at this point I was furious at the incompetence of this dealership.
Well as it turned out, none of the gauges on the dashboard worked and the car stalled when going more than 40 miles an hour. On Monday, I took the car into Car Toys to get a remote start put in because I simply wasn't strong enough to start it and I couldn't keep asking my roommate to start it. A remote start was put in and I was able to start the car only with the remote start. I still couldn't start it with the key. I also had them remove the third party "alarm" system that I had. I went back to the Boulder Nissan dealership so they could fix the problem with the fuse that they had blown on my car when they worked on it on Saturday. I told them the third party alarm was removed and a remote start was installed just so I could install the car.
Instead of properly diagnosing why my car wouldn't start now that it was Wednesday and their expert mechanics were working, they fixed the fuse, put back my starter, topped my oil and told me that since I now had a remote start they couldn't diagnose and fix the issue because there were too many wires. These people are complete imbeciles and don't even know the meaning of customer service or doing the right thing. I was lost for words and left with my car, vowing never to return there, ever! At least the only thing they charged me for was the oil.
After a month, my regular mechanic finally had a day open for me to take my car to him and he diagnosed the problem as an ignition switch issue. He bought the part, installed it and voila, I can now start my car without being the incredible hulk. It defies credulity to me that a dealership was unable to properly diagnose the ignition switch problem I had with my car and not only that, they didn't properly put my car back together and allowed me to leave with a car that was unsafe.
I can confidently say that I will never, ever take my car there again and I will not recommend them to my worse enemy. I was treated horribly as a customer and I simply can't believe that they can get away with treating customers in such a poor manner.
