Warren Village provides early care and education to help improve the health and developmental outcomes for children in poverty and have a positive impact on their school readiness skills. The Greta Horwitz Learning Center serves children from six weeks through 10 years of age and is designed to promote healthy physical growth, social, intellectual, and emotional development, language skills, self-help skills, creativity, and critical thinking. According to the organization, in 2016, the Greta Horwitz Learning Center at Warren Village provided early learning and education to 158 children.
The affordable housing program at Warren Village offers low income, single parent families two years of transitional housing. The resident apartments are in close walking distance to public transportation and social service organizations, and families are asked to pay what they can afford, either 30 percent of their adjusted income or a minimum of $25 per month. Residents must also be committed to full-time work or school, three life skills classes per month, and two hours of community service per month. According to the organization, in 2016, Warren Village supported 150 low-income families with affordable housing.
Village offers multiple support services to help single parents and children
develop skills needed to change and improve their lives. To remain in Warren
Village’s program, residents are expected to demonstrate consistent progress
toward personal and economic self-sufficiency goals. Family Advocates provide
support with career and education development, leadership, personal growth, and
enrichment, and financial growth and independence. Children’s programs, offered
via Warren Village’s Kids’ Club, offers younger children space to participate
in age-appropriate activities through evening child care provided while parents
attend evening life skills classes. The organization also offers an on-site
food pantry and computer lab for residents. According to the organization, in
2016, 390 children and adults utilized the services provided by Warren Village.
