DAYTON, OHIO, April 10, 2013 - Today, your Better Business Bureau is pleased to announce Standard Register will be honored with your BBB’s fourth annual Torch Award. This esteemed company will receive the prestigious honor at your BBB’s Eclipse Integrity Awards on Tuesday, May 14 at David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center, 444 W. Third St., Bldg. 12, Dayton.
Through the years, your BBB’s torch has been the symbol of guidance and enlightenment as consumers and businesses strive to interact in a trustworthy and ethical marketplace. The local Torch Award is dedicated to the legacy of great Miami Valley business pioneers, such as John Patterson, Wilbur and Orville Wright, Charles Kettering, Colonel Edward Deeds and most recently, Clay Mathile. It was through their ingenuity, leadership, generosity and mentorship to others the Miami Valley has stood the test of time and recreated itself again and again.
The list of reasons the selection committee decided to recognize Standard Register this year as the BBB Torch Award honoree is long. Standard Register is driven by a firm belief an organization’s reputation is the cornerstone for growth and long-term prosperity. Staff embrace the company’s core values (integrity, candor, accountability, respect and excellence) in all decisions and actions they take. The Standard Register team believes doing what’s right - living the values - every day helps create an even more successful company for the next century. The leadership team works diligently to attract and retain top talent to the company and Dayton community by encouraging innovation and providing a best-in-class leadership development program.
For 100 years, the company and its employees have not only supported the success of the community financially, but also gave of their time and energy to make a positive impact on the Miami Valley. In fact, it actively supports many community programs through its Community Contributions Council and Sherman Standard Register Foundation. Employees receive two paid days a year to volunteer for charities of their choice. While other businesses have come and gone in our community, Standard Register has become even more rooted in the Miami Valley, supporting local charities, mentoring local students, participating in Rebuilding Together and other rehab/beautification projects in the area.
The Torch Award was presented to Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. in 2012. The honor will be passed to Standard Register by Douglas A. Fecher, Wright-Patt Credit Union president and CEO. He says, “Over the past 100 years, Standard Register has become a cornerstone for the Dayton community. They represent a tradition of innovation in business and community. What stands out the most is their deep commitment to helping people thrive in the Dayton region. Standard Register embraces the responsibility to push businesses forward with new capabilities and solutions. In addition, through the generosity of their time and energy, they support various organizations working to improve the quality of life in our hometown. Wright-Patt Credit Union had the honor to be the recipient of the BBB’s third annual Torch Award last year. It’s our honor to pass the Torch Award on to Standard Register. They are a symbol of excellence, perseverance, innovation and most importantly making a difference in our community.”
John North, BBB president and CEO, says, “Your BBB’s Torch Award honors businesses that are a reflection of some of Dayton’s historic figures that have made Dayton and the surrounding communities great. Characteristics and values, such as innovation, excellence and philanthropy, are ingrained in the Standard Register culture. It’s a company other organizations use as a benchmark as they strive to be the very best they can be. Your BBB is pleased to recognize Standard Register for its efforts to make the Miami Valley a great place to live, work and play.”
Joseph P. Morgan, Jr., Standard Register president and chief executive officer, said, “On behalf of the Standard Register community, thank you for the honor of being selected for the 2013 Better Business Bureau Torch Award. We are very proud of our 100 year-old company and pleased to be among a distinguished list of innovative companies established and still growing in Dayton.
