BBB & Day Air Credit Union Offer Award-Winning Girl Scout Event Again

Smart Choices In Life & Business To Be Attended By 150 Area Scouts

DAYTON, OHIO, January 17, 2012 – Your Better Business Bureau’s Center For Business & Consumer Ethics (CBCE) and Day Air Credit Union are once again partnering to offer their award-winning program to local Girl Scouts. Join us for...

Smart Choices In Life & Business

Saturday, April 14

Registration: 9:45 - 10 a.m.

Program: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Girl Scouts of Western Ohio

450 Shoup Mill Rd., Dayton

Cost is only $20 per troop, includes lunch and an activity patch

The event features age-specific presentations and activities on life choices and business. The older girls - Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors - will learn about the business world from a panel of business women, hear presentations about buying smart and finances, develop peer pressure skits and participate in conflict resolution activities. The younger girls - Daisies and Brownies - will also hear presentations about buying smart and finances and develop peer pressure skits. In addition, they will play career charades and make thank you notes for area fire and police departments. All these activities help the girls earn badges. Plus, they will earn activity patches to display on their uniforms.

Last fall, the program was recognized nationally by the Council of Better Business Bureaus with an Outstanding BBB Award. The judges considered the program and its specific course content to be “intriguing,” “innovative in its approach” and “took the BBB and its Accredited Business sponsor directly into the lives of young consumers.”

Christy Mauch, CBCE executive director, says, “The inaugural event exceeded our expectations last year. And, we expect this year’s event to follow suit. The available spots are already filling up fast, demonstrating we are meeting a need in our community.”

Bettina Buscemi, Day Air Credit Union business development manager, adds, “Day Air Credit Union and your BBB are excited about this continued partnership and the unique opportunity to educate area Girl Scouts on financial literacy and more. We’re looking forward to this event and continuing to help the girls build courage, confidence and character and make the world a better place.”

Space is limited to 75 girls per age group, so register today by calling (937) 222-1534, ext. 2270. (A troop leader is required to attend with each participating troop.)
