BBB Revokes Accreditation Of Seven Local Businesses

Your Better Business Bureau has revoked the Accreditation of seven local companies for failure to meet your BBB’s Standards For Trust. Your BBB’s board of directors revoked their Accreditations at its January 10 meeting.

The companies are:

Affordable Roofing

Piqua, OH

Your BBB’s Standards for Trust state Accredited Businesses need to build trust and advertise honestly. These standards mean Accredited Businesses need to establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace including fulfilling all licensing and bonding requirements. In addition, they should adhere to established standards of advertising and selling. Affordable Roofing’s BBB Accreditation was revoked for failure to abide by these standards. Your BBB requested the company substantiate a licensing claim on its Web site. Your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, certified mail and phone regarding the licensing claim. Your BBB even sent a certified letter to the company advising of suspension of Accredited Business status and offering assistance. The company’s Web site is still not revised.

APA Public Research Center, LLC

West Carrollton, OH

One of your BBB’s Standards for Trust is Accredited Businesses need to be responsive, addressing marketplace disputes quickly, professionally and in good faith. APA Public Research Center, LLC’s BBB Accreditation was revoked for failure to abide by this standard. It has two unresolved complaints with your BBB. These complaints allege the company didn’t complete services it was paid for. Your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, certified mail and phone regarding the complaints, including offering mediation and arbitration services. Your BBB even sent a certified letter to the company advising of suspension of Accredited Business status and offering assistance. Your BBB received notices from the post office the certified mail was delivered to the business.

Eatonform, Inc.

Moraine, OH

One of your BBB’s Standards for Trust is Accredited Businesses need to be transparent, clearly disclosing any guarantees or warranties accompanying a product and the business’ return/refund policy. This also means companies selling products on Web sites should disclose the nature and terms of shipping, including any known delays or shortages of stock. Eatonform, Inc.’s BBB Accreditation was revoked for failure to abide by this standard. Your BBB requested the business revise its Web site to include guarantee or warranty information, the return/refund policy and shipping information. Your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, fax, certified mail and phone regarding the Web site issue. Your BBB even sent a certified letter to the company advising of suspension of Accredited Business status and offering assistance. Your BBB did receive confirmation from the post office the certified letter sent to the company indicating suspension of BBB Accreditation was received. The company’s Web site is still not revised.

Help Point Restoration, LLC

Dayton, OH

Your BBB’s Standards for Trust state Accredited Businesses need to be responsive and honor promises. This means Accredited Businesses need to be responsive, addressing marketplace disputes quickly, professionally and in good faith. They should also abide by all written agreements and verbal representations. Help Point Restoration, LLC’s BBB Accreditation was revoked for failure to abide by these standards. A consumer alleges the company hadn’t started work it was contracted to complete and received half of the contracted amount up front. As always, your BBB tried to reach the company by letter and phone regarding the complaint. It even sent a certified letter notifying the company of the need for a response to the complaint and possible suspension of BBB Accreditation. The post office reports the letter your BBB sent by certified mail suspending the company’s BBB Accreditation has not been claimed.

Newsome’s Tree Service

Dayton, OH

Your BBB’s Standards for Trust state Accredited Businesses need to build trust, advertise honestly and be responsive. These standards mean Accredited Businesses need to establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace including fulfilling all licensing and bonding requirements; adhering to established standards of advertising and selling including cooperating with BBB self-regulatory programs for the resolution of advertising disputes; and addressing marketplace disputes quickly, professionally and in good faith. Newsome’s Tree Service’s BBB Accreditation was revoked for failure to abide by all three of these standards. Your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, certified mail and phone regarding two consumer complaints alleging dissatisfaction with service and received no response. Your BBB also requested the company remove or substantiate the licensing claim listed on a company service contract, including requesting it participate in an Advertising Review Council (ARC) hearing. Your BBB even sent a certified letter to the company advising of suspension of Accredited Business status and offering assistance. The post office reports the letter your BBB sent by certified mail suspending the company’s BBB Accreditation has been claimed by a company representative.

Nu-Finish General Contracting

Dayton, OH

Like Help Point Restoration, LLC, Nu-Finish General Contracting had its accreditation revoked for failure to abide by your BBB’s Standards for Trust regarding being responsive and honoring promises. Your BBB received five complaints from consumers alleging dissatisfaction with the company’s service and/or repairs. The company has been unresponsive to these customers. As a part of its normal process, your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, certified mail and phone regarding these complaints. Like the consumers alleging the complaints, your BBB has received no response from the company.

United Heating & Plumbing

Dayton, OH

United Heating & Plumbing’s BBB Accreditation was also revoked for failure to abide by your BBB’s Standard for Trust concerning being responsive. One consumer alleges services were paid for in full, but not completed by the company. A second complaint alleges the company was hired to perform a repair, but the repair did not fix the problem. In both cases, the consumers had to hire another company to do the work. Your BBB contacted the company multiple times by letter, certified mail and phone regarding the complaints. Your BBB even sent a certified letter to the company advising of suspension of Accredited Business status and offering assistance.

According to your BBB and its board of directors, your BBB’s Standards for Trust are designed to offer consumers and businesses confidence before they make purchasing decisions. Expulsion from BBB Accreditation is unfortunate; however enforcing these standards is taken very seriously. These standards also are applied to new applicants that can be denied BBB Accreditation if not in compliance.
