May 05, 2011

DAYTON, OHIO, April 22, 2011 - Today, your Better Business Bureau is pleased to announce Bob Ross Buick-GMC & Mercedes-Benz will be honored with your BBB’s second annual Torch Award. This esteemed company will receive the prestigious honor at your BBB’s Eclipse Integrity Awards on Tuesday, May 10 at David H. Ponitz Sinclair Center, 444 W. Third St., Bldg. 12, Dayton.

Throughout the years, your Better Business Bureau torch has been the symbol of guidance and enlightenment as consumers and businesses strive to interact in a trustworthy and ethical marketplace. The local Torch Award is dedicated to the legacy of great Miami Valley business pioneers, such as John Patterson, Wilbur and Orville Wright, Charles Kettering, Colonel Edward Deeds and most recently, Clay Mathile. It was through their ingenuity, leadership, generosity and mentorship to others the Miami Valley has stood the test of time and recreated itself again and again.

Today, Bob Ross Buick-GMC & Mercedes-Benz continues the tradition of its founders, Robert P. Ross, Sr. and Norma J. Ross, providing 100 percent complete customer satisfaction to those it does business with. Today, with Jenell Ross and Robert Ross, Jr. at the helm of the business, the organization continues to grow and excel, maximizing all opportunities to better the environment. Robert P. Ross, Sr. paved the way for many. He was the first graduate of General Motors’ Minority Dealer Academy and the first African-American Mercedes-Benz dealer in the world. The dealership has modeled the way for minority-owned businesses, earning multiple honors, including Black Enterprise Magazine’s Top 100 African-American Automobile Dealerships annually for nearly 35 years and Automobile Dealer of the Year in 2000, named Working Women Magazine’s Top 500 Women Owned Companies. It’s also received the Minority Retail Firm of the Year Award from the Ohio Statewide Minority Business Development Center and the Regional Retailer Firm of the Year Award and the National Minority Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Minority Enterprise Development. Its list of honors is long. The dealership demonstrates excellence in sales, earning many sales honors in the industry year after year. The business is very community-oriented, sponsoring the Dayton Dragons, hosting the annual Bob Ross Classic and operating The Ross Foundation to issue scholarships to area youth. In addition, it supports a variety of cultural charity events, church affiliations, civic organizations, home and garden shows and a host of local charity events. The dealership’s team has provided countless hours to mentor, educate and provide to those in the community. It’s been an excellent platform for entrepreneurs to see what it takes to survive.

The inaugural Torch Award was presented to Aileron last year. The honor will be passed to Bob Ross Buick-GMC & Mercedes-Benz by Joni Fedders, Aileron president. She says, “The flame of free enterprise and the concept that one can create opportunity and wealth for self, family and the community is what helped fuel our country’s quality of life. It starts with individuals who have passion, persistence and vision, who are willing to put their personal capital at risk and choose to do business with the highest level of ethics. Aileron was honored to be the recipient of the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award last year and looks forward to passing the Torch Award to Bob Ross’s organization knowing its leaders and employees have and will carry the flame of integrity, ingenuity, generosity and leadership.”

John North, BBB president and CEO, says, “Your BBB’s Torch Award honors businesses that have inspired, mentored and provided valuable support, education and guidance to businesses and community leaders that have went on to make their successes in the Miami Valley.
