Attend Drug Free Workplace/Safety Training Programs

DAYTON, OHIO, August 17, 2010— Your Better Business Bureau joins Sheakley Health and Safety Services to offer training classes to help you increase workplace safety. The Ohio BWC's Drug Free Workplace Program (DFWP) and Drug Free Safety Program (DFSP) will help business leaders prevent, discover and address substance abuse issues.

On August 27, attend one or all three sessions below:

Employee Education
8 – 9 a.m.
$10 for BBB Accredited Businesses
$15 for Non-Accredited Businesses

This programming meets BWC DFWP Employee Education requirements for EZ employers with less than 25 employees for January 1 program year and new BWC DFSP Employee Education requirements for July 1 program year. Topics include…

  • The major problem represented by substance use in the workplace.
  • What constitutes substance use and misuse as defined in your written policy and the consequences for violating that policy.
  • The signs and symptoms of substance use.
  • The effects of commonly used drugs in the workplace.
  • What assistance (community resources) employees can receive if they or their family members have a substance problem.

Supervisor Training

9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
$20 for BBB Accredited Businesses
$25 for Non-Accredited Businesses

This programming meets BWC DFWP Refresher Supervisor requirements for January 1 program year and new BWC DFSP Supervisor Training for July 1 program year. Topics covered include…
· How to initiate reasonable suspicion, post-accident and other types of testing.
· General information on how to apply, implement and carry out a DFWP.
· How to recognize possible alcohol/drug impairment.
· How to document behaviors that demonstrate alcohol/drug use.

Supervisor Accident Analysis Training

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
$10 for BBB Accredited Businesses
$15 for Non-Accredited Businesses

This programming meets new BWC DFSP Accident Analysis training requirements for the July 1 program year. Topics covered include…

  • Basic information and tools for establishing and improving accident analysis programs.
  • Elements of an effective written accident analysis program.
  • Five primary causal factors of accidents.
  • Action steps in analyzing accidents.
  • The use of comprehensive accident analysis to prevent and/or minimize the occurrence of future occupational accidents, injuries and illnesses.
