Complaint
Purchase complete home window shades in 1999. These shades came with a lifetime warranty repaired many times now will no longer honor warranty
Purchased a new home construction in 1999. Blind spot came into home very courteous and polite. Kirsch shades purchased very expensive in 1999 came with lifetime repair warranty. Strings on these shades break frequently. On average probably at least 1-2 shades string repair every 2 yrs needed. Service and repair good at first, however as years have passes service has declined to now nonexistent Last time repaired about 2 years ago employee very rude and stared we don't sell these shades anymore. I/ customer assured employee shades were purchased here and have lifetime repair warranty. This customer suggested employee check sales records. Employee grudgingly did and found this to be true. Shade strings were repaired. Now 8/26/2014 called ahead to have blind spot to pull records before 2 broken shades brought to store. This customer anticipating again problem with warranty validation. This customer was told " we moved locations about 2 years ago and we don't have old records anymore". Employee also stated " strings are NOW only warrantied for 5 years. It is not good practice to not keep old records. Obviously these strings have a problem, thus warranty no longer lifetime, but only 5 years. A lifetime warranty is just that. It is most likely possible this company "gambling" that most shades will be replaced , homes will change owners and lifetime warranties will "faze themselves out". This is not that case. We are the original owners of home and purchased merchandise before warranty time was shortened, shades are marked with companies own stickers listing dates and initialed by repair person. THIS COMPANY does not hono

All windows covered with Kirsch shades 1999. All sevice was fantastic when these rather expensive shades purchased. Lifetime guarantee for repair at purchase. Strings on these shades break frequently and have been repaired per warranty many times over the years. As the years have passed the repair service has decreased and now company will NOT honor lifetime warranty. I/customer now have been told that company changed locations about 2 years ago and they no longer have old purchase records. New policy is that strings are guaranteed only 5 years. No company should not have records due to change in location. A lifetime warranty is just that. Obviously string breaking is an issue thus the decreased 5 year warranty one. This company "probabling gambling" that most shades will be replaced or homes will have new owners and lifetime guarantees will be forgotten . This not the case I have 2 broken shades with blind spot repair stickers with repair dates and repair person initials. Just want free string repAir as was promised. The service obviously decreases after purchase is made . Poor records. Not honoring warranties. Poor service. Help

In response to the consumer complaint regarding s Kirsch shades purchased in 1999, Kirsch's current warranty is as follows:

10 year warranty on manufacturer's defects
5 year warranty on fabric
3 year warranty on cords

Any shades manufactured prior to 2003 are not able to be repaired by Kirsch with the exception of cordless shades.
Cordless shades will need to be sent back to the factory at the customer's expense and the customer will be charged $25.00 per shade for replacement of the cordless mechanism.

The Blind Spot offers repair/service on shades for our existing customers, as well as for shades
purchased elsewhere. We do charge a nominal fee of $ 25.00 for recording shades depending on the size/brand. We have been in business since 1983 and strive to keep customers happy. Unfortunately, the customer and the person who handled the phone call may have had a communication issue. The Blind Spot has records of sales from to 2001 to present. When we relocated in December of 2012, we hired a shredding company for our hard copy sales receipts, with the assumption that our computer was not going to crash in May of 2013. This was not an intentional loss of customer records. If the customer would like to bring the shades in for recording, we will continue to repair them as a courtesy, at no charge. The customer may have to leave the shades for a day or two, depending on how busy our repair person is. We apologize for any ill will that may have occurred and would like our customers to be happy.
